About Physical Review A

Physical Review A (PRA) provides a dependable resource of worldwide developments in the rapidly evolving areas of atomic, molecular, and optical physics and related fundamental concepts. The journal contains articles on quantum mechanics including quantum information theory, atomic and molecular structure and dynamics, collisions and interactions (including interactions with surfaces and solids), clusters (including fullerenes), atomic and molecular processes in external fields, matter waves (including Bose-Einstein condensation), and optics, both quantum and classical.

Editor: Gordon W. F. Drake, University of Windsor

Gordon obtained his Ph.D. in physics at York University (Canada), followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. He is a former Head of the Department of Physics at the University of Windsor, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and an APS Fellow. He has been honored with numerous prizes and awards for the quality of his research and for his outstanding service to the physics community. He became Editor of Physical Review A in 2006, leading the journal since then. His research interest is focused on theoretical atomic physics with the aim to develop tools for high-precision spectroscopy and the search for new physics. Gordon works remotely from Windsor, Ontario.

Managing Editor: Thomas Pattard, APS Editorial Office

Thomas obtained his Ph.D. in physics at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Germany). He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Tennessee and later as a staff scientist at Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems. His research involves a variety of topics in atomic and molecular systems, including ultracold plasmas and atomic ionization. He joined Physical Review A as an in-house Editor in 2006.

Associate Editor: Erika Andersson, Heriot-Watt University

Erika received her Ph.D. in physics at the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm). She joined Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh) in 2007, where she became a full professor in 2015. She investigates different topics in quantum information, such as quantum measurements, quantum digital signatures, and quantum walks. In 2011-2015 Erika served on the Editorial Board of Physical Review A. She became an Associate Editor in 2015. Erika works remotely from Edinburgh.

Associate Editor: Doerte Blume, Washington State University

Doerte conducted her Ph.D. research at the University of California (Berkeley) and Max Planck Institute for Flow Research (Germany). After a postdoctoral fellowship at JILA, she joined the Washington State University in 2001 and was promoted to full professor in 2012. Her research interests are in the microscopic behavior of few-particle systems, especially in atomic, molecular and chemical physics. Doerte is an APS Fellow; she served as a Board member of Physical Review A from 2010-2015 and became an Associate Editor in 2016. She works remotely from Pullman.

Associate Editor: Dirk Jan Bukman, APS Editorial Office

Dirk Jan received his Ph.D. in statistical physics from Leiden University (the Netherlands). After postdoctoral positions at Simon Fraser University, Cornell, and McGill he joined Physical Review A and Physical Review E in 2002. He has been the Managing Editor of Physical Review E since 2009.

Associate Editor: Katiuscia Cassemiro

Katiuscia received her Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. She did her postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (Germany) as a Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow, and at the European Laboratory for Non-linear Spectroscopy (Italy). She held the position of assistant professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil) before joining Physical Review A as in-house Editor in 2015. Her expertise is in quantum information and quantum optics.

Associate Editor: Franco Dalfovo, University of Trento

Franco received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Padova (Italy). He is a full professor at the University of Trento since 2005 and head of the local unit of “Istituto Nazionale di Ottica” of the Italian Research Council. His research group investigates a broad range of topics on Bose-Einstein condensates, cold atomic gases and quantum fluids. He joined APS in 2006 as a member of the Editorial Board of Physical Review A, and since 2007 is an Associate Editor. He works remotely from Trento.

Associate Editor: Mark Hillery, Hunter College

Mark obtained his Ph.D. in physics at the University of California at Berkeley.  Since 1993 he has been a full professor at Hunter College of the City University of New York. He joined APS in 2001 as a member of the Editorial Board of Physical Review A and as an Associate Editor in 2004. His main research interests are in quantum optics, quantum information, and nonlinear optics.  He worked on quantum cloning, quantum cryptography, quantum state discrimination and entanglement detection. Mark is an APS and OSA Fellow. He works remotely from New York.

Associate Editor: Frank Narducci, Naval Air Systems Command

Frank received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Rochester, NY. Since 1996 he has been the head of a research team working on the development of sensors based on quantum optics and atomic physics. He is currently working on magnetometers, accelerometers and gyroscopes based on cold atom interferometers. Frank is a NAVAIR Fellow and the Senior Science and Technology Manager (SSTM) for Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) for the Navy. For more than 15 years, he has contributed as an Associate Editor for Physical Review A and an Adjunct Associate Editor for Physical Review Letters. Frank works remotely from Patuxent River, MD.

Associate Editor: Mark Saffman, University of Wisconsin

Mark obtained his Ph.D. in physics at the University of Colorado (Boulder). Since 1999 he has been a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research interests include atomic physics, quantum information processing with cold atoms, quantum optics, nonlinear optics and dynamics. Mark is an APS and OSA Fellow, serving as an Associate Editor of Physical Review A since 2007. He works remotely from Madison.

Associate Editor: Yujun Wang

Yujun received his Ph.D. from Kansas State University, subsequently was a research associate at JILA, University of Colorado Boulder, followed by one year at the University of Maryland and NIST. Before joining Physical Review A he held the position of senior research associate at Kansas State University.  His research expertise is in ultracold atoms and molecules as well as in interactions of matter with intense laser fields. He is an in-house Editor since 2015.

Associate Editor: Marek Zukowski, University of Gdansk

Marek received his Ph.D. from the University of Gdansk (UG), Poland. He is a full professor and the director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics, UG. He was a visiting professor at various universities (Innsbruck, Vienna, Tsinghua, USTC). He serves on the Board of National Science Center (Polish granting agency). Marek’s research interests are quantum theory, quantum information, and quantum optics. His main works are on entanglement swapping and Bell’s inequalities. In 2015 he served on the Editorial Board of Physical Review A, and in 2016 he joined us as an Associate Editor. Marek works remotely from Gdansk.

Senior Assistant Editor: Margaret Foster

Margaret received her Ph.D. in physics from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Following postdoctoral research at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland and at the University of Liverpool in England, she joined the Physics Department at the State University of New York in Stony Brook as an Assistant Professor. She then changed fields and did research in biological physics at the University of California in La Jolla, the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, and again at SUNY in Stony Brook. She has been an in-house Editor for The Physical Review since 1992.

Senior Assistant Editor: Jill M. Gargano

Jill began her career with APS in 1988 in the production group and transitioned to the Editorial Department in 1994. She has served as an Assistant Editor for various journals in the Physical Review family, and joined Physical Review A and Physical Review E in 2000. Her responsibilities include technical editing, communications with the production group, and various review-process duties. Jill is a life-long resident of Long Island and holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English from Stony Brook University.

Assistant Editor: Serena Bradde

Serena received her Ph.D. from SISSA in Trieste, Italy. She did postdoctoral research at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Institut Pasteur (France), and the City University of New York. She joined Physical Review A and Physical Review E in 2016. Her expertise is in statistical and biological physics and complex systems.

Assistant Editor: Juan-José Liétor-Santos

Juan Jose received his Ph.D. in physics from Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a visiting professor at Georgia Southern University from 2011 to 2013, after which he moved to Emory University as a post-doctoral associate. He joined Physical Review A and Physical Review E in August, 2015 as an in-house Editor. His expertise is in soft matter physics.

Senior Editorial Assistant: Terre Arena

Terre holds a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Maryland. After working in the legal field for 20 years, she began her career as a Journal Services Assistant in the Ridge Editorial Office in September 2001. Shortly thereafter, she was promoted into the Editorial Department and now works as an in-house Senior Editorial Assistant for Physical Review A and Physical Review E.
