About the journal
AimsThe aims of the PCRJ are two-fold:
1. To provide an authoritative setting for the publication of high quality internationally-relevant research that is essential to the future of primary care with specific regard to the care of patients with respiratory and respiratory-related allergic diseases.
2. To inform and educate healthcare professionals worldwide of the research and service developments of relevance to primary care that promote excellence in their care of patients with respiratory and respiratory-related allergic diseases – and in so doing, to stimulate debate, drive consensus opinion, and to be a leader in the reporting of new concepts in the management of these patients.
Scope
The Primary Care Respiratory Journal is an open access, fully-indexed, international academic journal relevant to anyone with an interest in the primary care management of respiratory and respiratory-related allergic diseases. It is the official journal of the Primary Care Respiratory Society UK (PCRS-UK) and the International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG). The Journal publishes research papers, clinical reviews, discussion papers, editorials, letters and correspondence relating to all aspects of respiratory and respiratory-related allergic conditions. It also publishes news and articles concerning the policies and activities of the PCRS-UK, IPCRG, and related organisations worldwide.
The Journal is listed on Medline/PubMed, EBSCO Medline with Full Text, Thomson Reuters Web-of-Science, SCOPUS, EMBASE, SCImago, and the National Library for Health.
The PCRJ is published quarterly in both hard copy and online format (www.thepcrj.org). The hard copy is distributed to PCRS-UK members and to various IPCRG member countries. The online version is the official PubMed-accredited version, which contains additional appendices to many of the published papers. The online version is completely open access.
The PCRJ started life as the twice-yearly newsletter of the UK’s ‘GPs in Asthma Group’ (the precursor of the PCRS-UK, founded in 1987 by a group of UK respiratory-interested GPs).
In 1996, a new editorial team was assembled under the leadership of Mark Levy (pictured right) to turn the newsletter into an academic journal. Over the next decade the journal developed rapidly in both influence and academic standing, with some landmark events along the way...
In 1998, there were three issues published, and the Journal became a quarterly publication three years later. In 2001 the PCRJ became the official journal of the newly-formed International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG), and in February 2006 the PCRJ was awarded full PubMed/Medline listing backdated to January 2004 .
