About the journal

Aims and Scope

Occupational Therapy International is a peer-reviewed journal, publishing manuscripts that reflect the practice of occupational therapy throughout the world. Research studies or original concept papers are considered for publication. Priority for publication will be given to research studies that provide recommendations for evidence-based practice and demonstrate the effectiveness of a specific treatment method. Single subject case studies evaluating treatment effectiveness are also encouraged. Other topics that are appropriate for the journal include reliability and validity of clinical instruments, assistive technology, community rehabilitation, cultural comparisons, health promotion and wellness, surveys of treatment practices, historical reviews and meta-analyses that demonstrate treatment efficacy.

Instructions to Authors

Occupational Therapy International has now adopted online manuscript submission and peer review. The new system brings with it a whole host of benefits including:

• Quick and easy submission

• Administration centralised and reduced

• Significant decrease in peer review times

All submissions to the journal must be submitted online at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/oti. Full instructions and support are available on the site and a user ID and password can be obtained on the first visit. If you require assistance then click the Get Help Now link which appears at the top right of every ScholarOne Manuscripts page. If you cannot submit online, please contact Frank Stein by telephone (1 608-274-1242) or by e-mail (Franklin.Stein@usd.edu).

Authors must also supply:

Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to publish the article

Permission Request Form- it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission to reproduce (in all media, including electronic) material which has appeared in another publication

Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published and should not be submitted for publication elsewhere while they are under consideration by Wiley. Submitted material will not be returned to the author unless specifically requested.

Manuscript style. The language of the journal is English. The manuscript should be prepared in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edn). All submissions must have a title, numbered pages, be double-line spaced and have a margin of 3cm all around. Illustrations and tables must be printed on separate sheets, and not incorporated into the text. The title page must list the full title, short title and names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including e-mail, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs. Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s). The article will be sent for peer review without the above identifying details. Papers should not exceed 5000 words or contain more than 10 tables/figures. For papers, supply a structured abstract of up to 200 words, with the following sub-headings: objectives of study, methods, results, limitations and recommendations for further research. Also supply three or four keywords.

Text arrangement. The text should be divided into sections with headings. The sections should include the following: an introduction describing the problem investigated, incidence/prevalence of the problem, rationale for undertaking the study and a literature review; a methods section describing procedures and research methodology; a results section to indicate objective findings; and a summary or conclusions section. For qualitative studies, literature surveys, theoretical papers, descriptions of occupational therapy programmes and historical reviews, there will be variations in organization.

Reference style. References should be arranged alphabetically. Where reference is made to more than one work by the same author, published in the same year, identify each citation in the text as follows: (Collins, 1998a), (Collins, 1998b). Where multiple authors are listed in the reference, please cite in the text as 'Maxwell et al. (1999)'. All references must be complete and accurate. Where possible the DOI for the reference should be included at the end of the reference. Online citations should include date of access. References should be listed in the following style:

Personal communications and unpublished data should not be listed in the reference section but should be given in full in the text.

Illustrations . Supply two copies of each illustration on separate sheets, with the lead author's name and the figure number, with the top of the figure indicated, on the reverse. Line artwork must be high-quality laser output (not photocopies). Tints are not acceptable; lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. Supply artwork at the intended size for printing. All diagrams, tables and illustrations should be numbered in Arabic numerals.

Copyright . To enable the publisher to disseminate the author's work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. A copy of the agreement can be obtained from the journal editor or publisher.

Further information . Proofs will be sent to the author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimise the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. Free access to the final PDF offprint of your article will be available via Author Services only. Please therefore sign up for Author Services if you would like to access your article PDF offprint and enjoy the many benefits the service offers. Additional copies of the journal may be ordered.
