The file should be prepared using MS Word; disks should be labeled clearly with the authorsnames, file name, and software program. All text (title page, abstract, body, references) should be submitted as one document. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper at the top right corner of the page. Authors must give from three to ten key words that identify the most important subjects covered by the paper. On the title page, include full names of authors, academic and/or other professional affiliations, the complete mailing address and e-mail address of the author to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent.

Abstracts: Each paper requires a structured abstract of not more than 150 words summarizing the significant information and findings. To structure the abstract, use the same terms used to break the text into sections. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and references in the abstract.

Text: The body of the text should be divided into the following sections: Introduction, Materials and methods, Results, Discussion.

References: All references should appear at the end of the article in alphabetical order. Be sure to cite all references in the text. Include only references that are actually cited in the text. Examples of the Journal's style are listed below.

Personal Communications should be cited in the text in parentheses but not included in the References list. Example: (McGuigan MA, Editor-in-Chief, personal communication, October 12, 2004). A letter granting permission to publish the personal communication from the person providing the information must be included at the time of submission.

Acknowledgements Acknowledgements, if any, should be placed at the end of the body of the text and be limited to no more than 100 words. This section may be used to acknowledge the help of those who do not qualify for authorship or to acknowledge funding, donated resources, or significant material contributions to the research. In order for this section to be included, the lead author must submit a written statement that the subjects whom he or she intends to acknowledge have been notified of the intent.

Illustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, and PDF formats are preferred. JPG and GIF formats are acceptable
  • submit as separate files, not embedded in text files
Tables and Figures Tables should be embedded in the text. All figures should be included as one separate sheet or file. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

For uniformity of style, authors should use symbols for footnotes such as *, §

Proofs
All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 2 days of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article and it will be printed per his instruction. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted at the proof stage.

Authorship Statement
A form must be signed by all listed authors indicating the contribution to the paper made by each. The corresponding author is responsible for obtaining signatures from all listed authors and, using a check-off form, should indicate by name what each author contributed to each of the various facets of the study:
  • concept and research question
