Guide for Authors Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers (formerly Journal of the Chinese Institute of Chemical Engineers) publishes original works, from fundamental principles to practical applications, in the broad field of chemical engineering with special focus on three aspects: Chemical and Biomolecular Science and Technology, Energy and Environmental Science and Technology, and Materials Science and Technology. Authors should choose for their manuscript an appropriate aspect section and a few related classifications when submitting to the journal online.
Papers will be published only when they are judged by the Editor to be characterized by some general significant conclusions or by experimental data having potential lasting value.
Manuscripts submitted for publication in this Journal should be written in English . All manuscripts should be typed double-spaced and with wide type margins. Submission for all types of manuscripts to Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers proceeds totally online. Via the Elsevier Editorial System Web site for this journal at http://ees.elsevier.com/jtice/, you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of the various files. When submitting a manuscript to Elsevier Editorial System, authors need to provide an electronic version of their manuscript. Only original source files should be submitted.
If submission via the Elsevier Editorial System Web site is not possible, manuscripts should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, Professor Yu-Min Yang, Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers, Department of Chemical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, No.1, University Road, Tainan 701, Taiwan, or via e-mail to journal@twiche.org.tw.
Papers appearing in the journal are of four basic types:
- Original Papers: formal presentation of significant and completed research work.
- Short Communications: brief reports which need prompt publication.
- Letter to the Editor: general comments on established chemical engineering topics and discussion of published papers.
- Chemical Engineering Data: systematic presentation of data of thermodynamic and transport properties, or of design data from original measurements.
Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the publisher.
FORMAT
- Title: Use a specific and informative title; it should be as brief as possible, consistent with the need for defining the subject area covered by the paper and for indexing and retrieval purposes.
- Authorship: Be consistent in authorship designation. Use first name, middle name initials, and surname. Give complete mailing address of place where work was conducted. If the current address is different, include it in the footnote on the title page.
- Abstract: Be clear and concise, giving the scope and purpose, significant results and conclusions.
- Keywords: Highlight at least four keywords.
- Text: Assume that your reader is not a novice in the field. Include as much history as is needed to provide background for the particular material covered in your paper. Sectionalize the article and insert appropriate headings.
- Conclusion: Indicate contribution with its limitations, significance and possible extensions.
- Nomenclature: List all symbols and units in English and in an alphabetical order indicating their meaning and dimensions.
- References: Should be listed in an alphabetical order according to author, patentee or equivalent. Names of authors, titles of the paper, patent or report, and beginning page number should be included.
References should be cited in the text by the last names of the authors (both authors, when only two; first author plus "et al.", when more than two) and Year. Abbreviations of journal names should conform to the Chemical Abstracts. Do not number references. The reference format required is as:
Bird, R. B., W. E. Stewart, and E. N. Lightfoot, Transport Phenomena, p.101, John-Wiley and Sons, Inc., New York, U.S.A. (1960). Derzansicy, L. J. and W. N. Gill, "Mechanism of Brine Side Reverse Osmosis Tubular Membrane," AIChE J. , 20, 751 (1974). Kobayashi, H., "Rapid Decomposition Mechanism of Pulverized Coal Particles," M.S. Thesis, Department of Aeronautics and Astronautic, Mass. Inst. Tech., Cambridge, Mass., U.S.A. (1972). Schroeder, W. C., "Hydrogenation of Coal," U.S. Patent, 3, 030, 297 (1962). Seckler, M. M., O. Mersmann, Ed., Garmisch-Partenkirchen, FRG (1990).
- Appendix: May be included to explain experimental and mathematical details.
- Figures: Original figures should be submitted. Submitting your artwork in an electronic format helps us to produce your work to the best possible standards, ensuring accuracy, clarity and a high level of detail. A detailed guide on electronic artwork is available on the website: http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions.
(a) Original figures should be good for reproduction with black ink lines on white background. Omit letters and captions. (b) Figure numbers and captions in English are listed on a separate page. (c) All plots should be framed with scale.
- Tables: Avoid tables and graphs which involve duplication or superfluous data. If you can use a graph, do not include a table. If the reader needs the table, omit the graph. Number tables in order of mention in the text.
- Maximum length:
(a) Length of Original Papers is not to exceed 35 double-spaced typed pages, including tables and figures, on the basis of about 300 words per typed page and a figure of 3"×3"equivalent to a typed page. (b) Length of Short Communications and Letters to the Editor are not to exceed, respectively, 10 and 4 double-spaced typed pages on the above indicated basis.
COPYRIGHT
Upon acceptance of an article, Authors will be asked to transfer copyright (for more information on copy-right see http://www.elsevier.com/locate/authorsrights). This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information. A letter will be sent to the corresponding Author confirming receipt of the manuscript. A form facili-tating transfer of copyright will be provided.
If excerpts from other copyrighted works are in-cluded, the Author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and credit the source(s) in the article. Permission requests must be completed using Copyright Clearance Center's Rightslink® service via http://www.elsevier.com/locate/permissionshttp://www.elsevier.com/locate/permissions. Authors are reminded that delays in publication may occur if the in-structions for submission and manuscript preparation are not strictly followed.
PROOFS
One set of page proofs in PDF format will be sent by e-mail to the corresponding Author (if we do not have an e-mail address then paper proofs will be sent by post). Elsevier now sends PDF proofs which can be annotated; for this you will need to download Adobe Reader version 7 available free from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. Instructions on how to annotate PDF files will accompany the proofs.
ELECTRONIC OFFPRINTS
The corresponding author, at no cost, will be provided with a PDF file of the published article via e-mail. The PDF file is a watermarked version of the published article and includes a cover sheet with the journal cover image and a disclaimer outlining the terms and conditions of use.
