About the journal
Description
...Now listed in ISI...
Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering - the Official Publication of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering is devoted to original and interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed papers on theoretical and applied research related to the broad spectrum of earthquake engineering with similar emphasis on all topics. Earthquake risk mitigation requires close interaction between different scientific and operational disciplines encouraging and motivating joint research and implementation aiming to advance the state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice.

The journal provides a forum for the European Earthquake Engineering Community to present and discuss matters of major interest e.g. important European damaging earthquakes, new developments in earthquake regulations, national policies applied after the occurrence of major seismic events (for example strengthening of existing buildings, etc.).

It is the incentive to keep the review period for scripts submitted to the journal to a minimum and to publish contributions in the form of original and review papers, or as short technical notes.

Topics that fit to the broad spectrum of BEE include but are not necessarily restricted to:

Seismic hazard studies and methods for mitigation of earthquake risks; Earthquake source mechanism and strong motion characterization and their use for engineering applications; Response and analysis of geological and geotechnical site conditions under earthquake excitations; Cyclic behaviour of soils; Response, analysis and design of earth structures and foundations under seismic conditions; Zonation and microzonation methodologies; Earthquake scenarios and vulnerability assessments; Earthquake codes and improvements; Response, analysis and design of all man-made structures under seismic conditions; Performance based seismic evaluation and design; Repair and strengthening; Damage assessments; Transportation and lifeline systems in seismic environments; Seismic response of historical monuments and structures; Seismic isolation, passive energy dissipation, active control of vibrations and other modern technologies for energy dissipation; Earthquake risk mitigation policies and methodologies.

Figures

All photographs, graphs and diagrams should be referred to as a 'Figure' and they should be numbered consecutively (1, 2, etc.). Multi−part figures ought to be labeled with lower case letters (a, b, etc.). Please insert keys and scale bars directly in the figures. Relatively small text and great variation in text sizes within figures should be avoided as figures are often reduced in size. Figures may be sized to fit approximately within the column(s) of the journal. Provide a detailed legend (without abbreviations) to each figure, refer to the figure in the text and note its approximate location in the margin. Please place the legends in the manuscript after the references.

Tables

Each table should be numbered consecutively (I, II, etc.). In tables, footnotes are preferable to long explanatory material in either the heading or body of the table. Such explanatory footnotes, identified by superscript letters, should be placed immediately below the table. Please provide a caption (without abbreviations) to each table, refer to the table in the text and note its approximate location in the margin. Finally, please place the tables after the figures legends in the manuscript.
Electronic Supplementary Material
Electronic Supplementary Material (ESM) for a paper will be published in the electronic edition of this journal provided the material is:

- submitted in electronic form together with the manuscript

- accepted after peer review:

ESM may consist of:

- information that cannot be printed: animations, video clips, sound recordings (use QuickTime, .avi, .mpeg, animated GIFs, or any other common file format)

- information that is more convenient in electronic form: sequences, spectral data, etc.

- large quantities of original data that relate to the paper, e.g., additional tables, large numbers of illustrations (color and black & white), etc.

After acceptance for publication, ESM will be published as received from the author in the online version only. Reference will be given in the printed version

Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author by e−mail.
Your response, with or without corrections, should be sent within 72 hours.
Offprints
Fifty offprints of each article will be provided free of charge. Additional offprints can be ordered by means of an offprint order form supplied with the proofs.
Page Charges and Colour Figures
No page charges are levied on authors or their institutions except for colour pages. The author will be contacted regarding costs and invoicing if the manuscript includes colour figures.
Copyright
Authors will be asked, upon acceptance of an article, to transfer copyright of the article to the Publisher. This will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information under copyright laws.
Permissions
It is the responsibility of the author to obtain written permission for a quotation from unpublished material, or for all quotations in excess of 250 words in one extract or 500 words in total from any work still in copyright, and for the reprinting of figures, tables or poems from unpublished or copyrighted material.
Springer Open Choice
In addition to the normal publication process (whereby an article is submitted to the journal and access to that article is granted to customers who have purchased a subscription), Springer now provides an alternative publishing option: Springer Open Choice. A Springer Open Choice article receives all the benefits of a regular subscription−based article, but in addition is made available publicly through Springers online platform SpringerLink. To publish via Springer Open Choice, upon acceptance please click on the link below to complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information. Payment must be received in full before publication or articles will publish as regular subscription−model articles. We regret that Springer Open Choice cannot be ordered for published articles.
