Physiology publishes invited review articles written by leaders in their fields. These articles are peer reviewed and highlight major advances in the broadly defined field of physiology. The journal also publishes shorter articles that either present important emerging topics and technologies or differing points of view. Finally, the journal highlights and briefly summarizes some of the most exciting new papers in physiology. With a new format that is both exciting and attractive, the journal is a valuable tool for researchers, educators, and students.

Editor's Bio: Dr. Sieck
Dr. Sieck is presently the Vernon and Earline Dale Professor and Chair of the Department of Physiology & Biomedical Engineering at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He is also a Professor of Anesthesiology and a Distinguished Mayo Investigator. For more than 30 years, the two major themes of his laboratory have focused on neuromotor control of breathing, and regulation of airway structure and function, relevant to aging, spinal cord injury and diseases such as asthma. His research has been continuously supported by multiple NIH grants since 1979. In addition to research, he is also very active in educational activities, having served as thesis advisor and mentor for numerous undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, junior faculty members and visiting scientists. He served as the Program Director for the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program within the Mayo Graduate School from 2001-2013. Dr. Sieck is the current editor-in-chief of Physiology and previously served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Applied Physiology. He is also member of several editorial boards, including the Journal of Applied Physiology, American Journal of Physiology: Lung, Cellular and Molecular Physiology, American Journal of Respiratory Critical Care Medicine, Respiratory Physiology and Neurobiology to name a few. His service also includes membership on NIH study sections, Special Emphasis Panels, Program Project grant review panels, and special ad hoc review panels. He has published 292 original peer-reviewed papers, 3 published books, 34 book chapters, 42 editorials and commentaries, as well as numerous abstracts.
