About the journal
Journal overview: The Bulletin publishes expository articles on contemporary mathematical research, written in a way that gives insight to mathematicians who may not be experts in the particular topic. The Bulletin also publishes reviews of selected books in mathematics and short articles in the Mathematical Perspectives section, both by invitation only.
Copying and reprinting: Material in this journal may be reproduced by any means for educational and scientific purposes without fee or permission with the exception of reproduction by services that collect fees for delivery of documents and provided that the customary acknowledgment of the source is given. This consent does not extend to other kinds of copying for general distribution, for advertising or promotional purposes, or for resale. Requests for permission for commercial use of material should be addressed to the Acquisitions Department, American Mathematical Society, 201 Charles Street, Providence, RI 02904-2294 USA. Requests can also be made by email to reprint-permission@ams.org .
Excluded from these provisions is material in articles for which the author holds copyright. In such cases, requests for permission to use or reprint should be addressed directly to the author(s). Copyright ownership is indicated in the notice in the lower right-hand corner of the first page of each article.
Publishing cycle: The Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society is published quarterly with articles posted individually to the AMS website before appearing in an issue. Beginning with the January 1992 issue, the Bulletin is accessible from http://www.ams.org/bull/ .
Indexing and archiving notes: This journal is indexed in Mathematical Reviews, Science Citation Index? Science Citation IndexT--Expanded, ISI Alerting Services, CompuMath Citation Index? and Current Content?Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences. This journal is archived in Portico.
Backlog information: As of May 31, 2009, the backlog for this journal was approximately 1 issue. This estimate is the result of reducing the number of manuscripts for this journal in the Providence office that have not yet gone to the printer on the above date by the number of articles assigned to issues to be published in four months (the time necessary for editing and composing a typical issue). In an effort to make articles available as quickly as possible, articles are posted to the AMS website individually after proof is returned from authors and before appearing in an issue.
Instructions to Authors
General Information for Journal Authors |
Preparing your manuscript for publication
Submitting your manuscript
A Consent to Publish and Copyright Agreement is required before a paper will be published. These can be found on the home page of each journal. AMS authors may choose to dedicate their work to the public domain after 28 years from date of publication. For further information, see the article by John Ewing in the March 2004 issue of the Notices of the American Mathematical Society entitled A Modest Proposal.
Permissions
Authors should obtain written permissions for use in their work of tables, figures, text, and other material taken from another source and previously published or owned by another author or publisher for use in both the print and electronic media.
Where to send files for accepted papers
Links to specific instructions are available on each journal's home page.
Tracking the progress of your manuscript
Track an accepted article through the AMS journals publication stream using the Manuscript tracking system.
Making changes to articles after posting
To preserve the integrity of electronically published articles, once an article is individually posted but not yet in an issue, changes cannot be made in place in the article. The AMS policy on making changes to articles after posting provides information about submitting an "Added after posting" section, if the article has not been published in a print issue, or an Errata, if the article has already been included in an issue.
Information for authors on submitting citations
This feature of the journals program allows authors to keep their articles dynamic by listing citations made to their work. Citations submitted will appear on the abstract page of the article.
You may add citations to your article from the Journals Commentary system.
Offprints
For most AMS journals, authors are offered 25 offprints without covers free of charge. In the case of multiple authors, the offprints will be divided among the authors unless we are otherwise instructed. An Offprint Order Form is mailed to authors along with proof copy of their article.
Authors of AMS electronic-only journal articles may receive 25 offprints of their article upon request. In the case of multiple authors, the offprints will
