Instructions to Authors

Submission of Manuscripts

Four complete copies of the manuscript must be submitted to one of the journal's editors (see below). Three of the copies must be completely anonymized by omitting the names of the authors and their institutions on the title page and all figures. The contributions should not have been published previously or be simultaneously submitted to another journal. The Editorial Board is authorized to perform editorial corrections. Upon evaluation of a manuscript by the reviewers, the authors are informed if the paper is accepted for publication and if it requires any changes in the editors' opinion. Each submission must come with a statement that no substantial parts of the manuscript have been published previously in any form. A letter of authorization by all co-authors involved is required as well.

Length of papers

Text, tables and List of References should not exceed 10 printed pages in total (12-point letter size, 1.5 line spacing). The number of figures should be appropriate to the manuscript content and should not be excessive.

Title

The title should be concise and catchy; an explaining subtitle is possible. The title is followed by the name of the author and co-authors, as well as the clinic or institution where the paper was written. The name and address (including phone and fax number, e-mail address) of the person designated as the author responsible for correspondence, proofs and distribution of reprints, should appear at the end of the title page.
Two abstracts, one in English and one in German language, are typed on a separate sheet. An abstract should not exceed 10 to 20 lines, pointing out the essence of the paper. After a concise definition of the study followed by one or two sentences, abstracts must be subdivided in the following sequential sections: Aim/Studienziel, Method/Methode, Results/Ergebnisse, Conclusion, Schlussfolgerung

Up to 5 Key Words for indexing should be provided below the abstract. Terms from the medical subject headings (MeSH) list of Index Medicus should be used (available online at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/factsheets/mesh.html and http://www4.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/htbin-post/Entrez/meshbrowser).

Text

The original manuscript must be typed in a DIN A4 format with a margin of 3 cm, 30 lines 1.5-spaced throughout, and 12-point letter size. Pages are numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Reference to figures and tables should be abbreviated as "Fig." and "Tab.".

Figures

Photographs should be sharp, well-contrasted glossy prints in black and white. Colour illustrations can be published if necessary and if the author makes a contribution to the printing costs. All figures are labelled on the back with the first author's name, the figure number, and an arrow marking the top of the image. Editors and publishers do not accept liability for the submitted material, so authors should retain photo negatives. Each figure must be accompanied by a legend; legends are numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and typed sequentially on separate sheets of the manuscript. Tables are typed on a separate sheet, along with their title lines and legends, and are attached to the end of the manuscript. Legends must be provided in an English and German version. The number of characters per legend should be restricted to a minimum.

References

In the text, references should be marked by numerical codes in parentheses referring to the respective numbers in the List of References. In the List of References, references should be listed in numbered order according to the sequence they appear in the text, using the style of the examples below.
