Instructions to Authors
Guidelines for Contributing Authors
TCM Editorial Policy
Articles appearing in this journal are generally commissioned. Prospective authors who have not been asked to write should first approach the Editor in Chief, an Executive Editor, or the editorial office with a brief outline of the proposed article. The Editor in Chief will decide whether to commission the proposed article. Authors should note that all manuscripts are subject to peer review, and that commissioning does not automatically guarantee publication.
Length and Format
Your manuscript should be 8-10 pages typed double-spaced, with references, tables, figures, and figure legends additional. We can accept most word processing formats (ideally Microsoft Word or WordPerfect). Most formatting codes are removed or replaced when we process your article, so there is no need to use excessive layout styling. Please do not use options such as automatic word breaking, justified layout, double columns, or automatic paragraph numbering (especially for numbered references). Do use bold face, italics, subscripts, superscripts, etc., as appropriate.
Tables
When preparing tables, if you are using a table grid, please use only one grid for each separate table and not a grid for each row. If no grid is being used, use tabs to align columns instead of spaces.
Illustrations
We welcome the use of illustrations, which may be submitted as slides, glossy prints, or electronic files. Please supply at least 2 sets of original slides or prints. If there are particular areas of the illustration(s) that should be emphasized, please indicate so on an onion-skin overlay. Also, please do not write in ink on the back of glossy prints.
You will receive one complimentary page of color illustration (to fit suitably on an 8? x 11" page). If you wish to submit more than 1 page of color with your article, please note that you will be charged for the cost of reproduction. We will provide you with price estimates prior to publication. There is no obligation to use additional color, and there is no charge for black and white images.
References
References are cited by authors' names and date of publication within parentheses, e.g., (Smith et al. 1989). Multiple references are separated by a comma, e.g., (Smith 1989, Jones et al. 1989). Reference citations that share the identical authors' names and dates are to be separated by adding lowercase letters to the dates, e.g., (Smith 1989a, Smith 1989b). These letters must correspond with letters in the reference list at the end of the article.
Limit the number of references to 40. If a paper has been submitted but not accepted, no journal name should be given and the paper should be marked as "unpublished" in the text but not included in the reference list.
Reference List References should be listed in alphabetical order and by date if necessary. No more than six names should be included in a reference. When a reference has more than six authors, use the first three names followed by et al.

Electronic Artwork Guidelines
Image Formats
When possible, please send your image files in TIFF or EPS format instead of JPEG to preserve detail. If you are only able to send JPEG files please make sure they are saved at the highest possible quality setting (with minimum compression).
If you submit graphs produced in software such as Word or Excel, please use black and white with different types of dashed lines for total clarity, as these types of colored thin lines are difficult to reproduce. Other line art images we accept include black and white TIFF files (minimum resolution of 1000 dpi) and EPS, PS, or PDF files (minimum line width of 1 pt).
For pictures, photographs, and micrographs, please supply as greyscale TIFF files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi if there is no lettering and 500 dpi if there is lettering.
Please use CMYK color coding instead of RGB to ensure accurate reproduction of colors. We can use CMYK encoded TIFF images and CMYK encoded EPS, PS, or PDF files.
Preparation
Please provide all illustrations as separate files and as hard copy on separate sheets. Artwork should be numbered according to sequence in the text. Captions for figures, schemes, and plates should be included after the references. Please make sure illustrations are referred to in the text.
You can submit your artwork on floppy, ZIP, or JAZ disks, or on CD-ROM.
For more information, please select "Artwork Instructions" from the Trends in Cardiovascular Medicine Author Gateway page (directly under the "Guide for Authors" link).
Author Gateway
After your manuscript has completed the peer-review process, you can check the status by visiting the Author Gateway at http://authors.elsevier.com . Click on "Track your Paper" on the left side of the page, and either create a profile or track without a profile.
To track your paper, you will need the manuscript reference number from the acknowledgment of receipt letter or email sent to you. (Please note this number will start with "TCM" followed by a 4-digit number, and is different from the number assigned to your manuscript before peer-review.) You will also need to enter the surname of the corresponding author.
Author Gateway updates the status of the manuscript beginning with preparation of proofs, through the date the issue publishes. Author Gateway posts citation information for your article as soon as it is available.
