About the journal

 Thrombosis Research

Thrombosis Research publishes peer-reviewed original research on thrombosis, hemostasis and fibrinolysis for the international scientific community. Both basic and clinical studies are published. Publication of research, which will lead to novel approaches in diagnosis, therapy, prognosis and prevention of thrombotic and hemorrhagic diseases is given high priority. Topics include biology, physiology and biochemistry of the blood-vascular system; molecular biology; genetics; structure and function of coagulation and fibrinolytic factors; rheological and other physical .properties of blood and thrombi; atherogenesis; thrombogenesis; thromboembolism; thrombolysis and epidemiology of cardiovascular disease; clinical studies of the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of thromboembolism.

Thrombosis Research serves a world-wide audience for the rapid dissemination of "cutting edge" information on thrombosis and hemostasis. In addition to original research, the Journal publishes Brief Communications which are short reports of new work; Letters to the Editors-in-Chief which allow the expression of opinions and criticisms on material published in the Journal and other topics of interest; Editorials which provide comments on matters significant to the readers of the Journal; and Reviews which describe topical and relevant scientific issues. Supplement Issues are devoted to publishing papers presented at national and international conferences.

The Editors-in-Chief, assisted by expert Associate Editors as well as an international editorial board of 48 distinguished members, are committed to the rapid dissemination of high quality, original research aimed at the advancement of knowledge of the nature of the vascular system in hemostasis and the pathogenesis involved in atherogenesis and thrombogenesis.

The Journal is invaluable to scientists-in biology, biochemistry, physiology, biophysics and clinical investigations-interested in basic research and in the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of thrombotic, hemorrhagic and other cardiovascular diseases. Research communications submitted to Thrombosis Research are strictly peer-reviewed, and when accepted, rendered a fast distribution to all major libraries in the world as well as to individual subscribers.

A word count should be provided in the covering letter and on the title page. The whole manuscript, including the Abstract, Reference List, Tables, and Legends to Tables and Figures, should be typed double spaced throughout, on one side of the paper only and with wide margins. Original articles should be organised as follows: (a) Title page; (b) Abstract, Keywords, and Abbreviations; (c) Text with the following sections; Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments; (d) References; (e) Tables; (f) Table Legends and Figure Legends. The pages should be numbered consecutively; the Title page is page 1, the Abstract page 2, etc. throughout the manuscript (including References, Tables, and Legends to Tables and Figures). Brief Communications have no abstract but a summary at the end of the discussion.
(a) Title Page: Identify the category of the communication on top of the page. Double space and type of brief and descriptive Title of the article, the full Name(s) of the Author(s)(in the format First Name, Initials, and Surname) and the Name and Location of the institution where the research was carried out. A word count of the text should include Tables and Legends. Exclude the Abstract and Reference list. The name, address, telephone and fax numbers and/or e-mail address of the corresponding author should be typed at the bottom of the title page as well as, if necessary, additional addresses of other Authors. To ensure fast and efficient correspondence, all authors are requested to provide e-mail addresses with submitted manuscripts. If the manuscript was presented at a meeting, the name of the organization, the place and the date on which it was read must be indicated.
(b) Abstract Page: Abstracts are required for original articles only. The abstract is essential and the most read part of the paper. It should be informative, not descriptive, and should avoid abbreviations except for units of measure. An abstract for a regular article should not exceed 250 words and should end with the principal conclusions of the study. Structured abstracts are encouraged and should use the following headings: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Conclusions.
Keywords and Abbreviations should follow the abstract and be on the same page (or on a separate page if no abstract). List up to 6 key words for subject indexing, preferably to be taken from Index Medicus. List all abbreviations used.
(c) Text of Articles: The text should be arranged as follows: Introduction, without heading, should state the purpose of the investigation and give a short review of pertinent literature.
Materials and methods should be described in detail with appropriate information about patients or experimental animals. Authors should stipulate that informed consent was obtained when applicable to research on humans, with the comment that the study was approved by the institutional Ethics Committee on human research. Manuscripts reporting animal experiments must include the statement that all animals received care in compliance with the American, European, or any other Convention on Animal Care, with the comment that the study was approved by the institutional Ethics Committee. Generic names of drugs and equipment should be used throughout the manuscript with brand names (proprietary name) and the name and location (city, state, country) of the manufacturer in parentheses when first mentioned in the text.
Results should be reported concisely. Results presented either in tables or figures should be commented on in the text.
Discussion is an interpretation of the results and their significance with reference to pertinent work by other authors. It should be clear and concise. The importance of the study and its limitations should be discussed.
Acknowledgments of financial or personal assistance should be placed at the end of the text.
(d) References: Consecutive numbers in square brackets should be used to indicate references in the text, e.g., [1,2], as part of the text and not raised above it.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Authors must declare any conflict of interest, as outlined in the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, on submission of a manuscript.

A conflict of interest for a given manuscript exists when a participant in the peer review and publication process - author, reviewer, editor - has ties to activites that could inappropriately influence his or her judgement, whether or not judgement is in fact affected. Financial relationships with industry (for example, through employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, expert testimony), either directly or through immediate family, are usually considered to be the most important conflicts of interest. However, conflicts can occur for other reasons, such as personal relationships, academic competition and intellectual passion. Public trust in the peer review process and the credibility of published articles depend in part on how well conflict of interest is handled during writing, peer review, and editorial decision making. Bias can often be identified and eliminated by careful attention to the scientific methods and conclusions of the work. Financial relationships and their effects are less easily detected than other conflicts of interest. Participants in peer review and publication should disclose their conflicting interests, and the information should be made available so that others can judge their effects for themselves.
