About the journal

Teaching and Learning in Medicine serves as an international forum for scholarly, state-of-the-art research on the purposes and processes of teaching and learning as they relate to the education of medical professionals. Its international scope acknowledges that there is a common challenge faced by all medical teachers--fostering the acquisition and maintenance of usable knowledge and skills in a broad, highly complex, and constantly changing clinical science--and that a common base of theory will contribute to meeting that challenge. The journal addresses practical issues and provides the analysis and empirical research needed to facilitate decision making about medical education by administrators, teachers, and learners. Its coverage includes applied educational research that is methodologically sound, practical, and useful to the teaching of medicine; editorials, analyses, and reviews of literature regarding the conduct of medical education; and basic research concerning the foundations of medical education.

Submit abstracts on a separate page and include appropriate indexing terms. Identify references cited within the text by superscripted numerals in the order in which they appear. Use asterisks for footnotes within text. Tables will be typeset; figures must be camera-ready. Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission from copyright owners to use a quotation of 500 words or more or a table or figure published elsewhere. Authors should write to both author(s) and publisher of such material to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages for use in the article and in future editions of it. Provide copies of all permissions and credit lines obtained. State in a cover letter that the manuscript is not being submitted elsewhere, identify the section of the journal for which the manuscript is being submitted, and clarify that all authors have approved the manuscript being submitted. Submit five copies of manuscripts to Jerry A. Colliver, Ph.D., Editor, Teaching and Learning in Medicine: An International Journal, Division of Statistics and Research Consulting and Department of Medical Education, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, P.O.
