Progress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications
Copyright ?2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. |
Progress in Photovoltaics offers a major forum for reporting advances in this rapidly developing technology, right through from research to practical application, and aims to reach all professionals, researchers, and energy policy-makers interested in worldwide activity in this important field. All submissions to the journal are rigorously peer-reviewed.
The Editorial Board which presides over this journal is drawn from many countries, with a deliberate balance of interests between academic research, industrial development, and practical operation of PV systems. The Board plays an essential role in the refereeing of contributions to the journal. It also maintains contact with the full range of PV activities on an international basis, and aims to foster a close and creative relationship between them. Considerable emphasis will be put on technical reviews and papers which describe current progress in a way which will appeal to a wide readership. The Editors will also include commissioned features, conference updates, and news of professional activities.
Contributions in the form of Full Papers, Short Communications, or 'Letters to the Editor' are invited on the full range of PV topics and concerns, including economic and environmental aspects.

Instructions to Authors
Initial Manuscript Submission. Submit five copies of the manuscript (including copies of tables and illustrations) to Paul A. Lynn, Managing Editor, Progress in Photovoltaics, PO Box 1158, Butcombe, Bristol BS40 7DP, U.K.
Authors must also supply:
- an electronic copy of the final version (see section below),
- a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to accept the submission, and
- permission grants - if the manuscript contains extracts, including illustrations, from other copyright works (including material from on-line or intranet sources) it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission from the owners of the publishing rights to reproduce such extracts using the Wiley Permission Request Form. Permission grants should be submitted with the manuscript.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published and should not be submitted for publication elsewhere while they are under consideration by Wiley. Submitted material will not be returned to the author unless specifically requested.
Electronic submission. The electronic copy of the final, revised manuscript must be sent to the Editor together with the paper copy. Disks should be PC or Mac formatted; write on the disk the software package used, the name of the author and the name of the journal. We are able to use most word processing packages, but prefer Word or WordPerfect and TeX or one of its derivatives.
Illustrations must be submitted in electronic format where possible. Save each figure as a separate file, in TIFF or EPS format preferably, and include the source file. Write on the disk the software package used to create them; we favour dedicated illustration packages over tools such as Excel or Powerpoint.
Manuscript style. The language of the journal is English. All submissions must have a title, be printed on one side of the paper, be double-line spaced and have a margin of 3cm all round. Illustrations and tables must be printed on separate sheets, and not be incorporated into the text.
- The title page must list the full title, and names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including email, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.
- Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
- Supply an abstract of up to 200 words for all articles (100 words for Short Communications). An abstract is a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work.
- Include up to eight keywords that describe your paper for indexing purposes.
The Journal includes full papers of up to about 10 000 words equivalent (including figures and tables) and Short Communications of up to about 4 000 words equivalent. Accelerated publication of research results, usually within four months of submission, (see 6(5), for full details) may be achieved by submitting Short Communications via fax to the Managing Editor accompanied by a Copyright Transfer Agreement (original to be forwarded by post).
The Journal is divided into three main sections: 'Research', 'Applications' and 'Broader Perspectives', each containing full papers and/or Short Communications. The refereeing criteria applied to the three sections is summarised as follows:
- 'Research' contributions will be assessed primarily on the originality of technical content, judged by the highest international standards. Review articles may be included provided they make substantial reference to recent research
- 'Applications' will be assessed for originality and significance, but with more emphasis on the challenge of successful design and implementation
- 'Broader Perspectives' will be assessed primarily in terms of significance and interest to a wide cross-section of the PV community. Contributions of a more general nature including those addressing economic, environmental or educational aspects, will normally appear in this section.
Reference style. References should be cited by superior numbers and listed at the end of the paper in the order in which they appear in the text. All references must be complete and accurate. Online citations should include date of access. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:
Journal
- Wang A, Zhao J, Wenham SR, Green MA. 21.5% efficient thin silicon solar cell. Progress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications 1996; 4(1):55-58.
Book
- Ang AH-S, Tang WH. Probability Concepts in Engineering Planning and Design, Volume II: Decision, Risk and Reliability. Wiley: New York, 1984; 1-10.
Illustrations. Supply each illustration on a separate sheet, with the lead author¡¯s name and the figure number, with the top of the figure indicated, on the reverse. Supply original photographs; photocopies or previously printed material will not be used. Line artwork must be high-quality laser output (not photocopies). Tints are not acceptable; lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. Supply artwork at the intended size for printing.
The cost of printing colour illustrations in the journal will be charged to the author. If colour illustrations are supplied electronically in either TIFF or EPS format, they may be used in the PDF of the article at no cost to the author, even if this illustration was printed in black and white in the journal. The PDF will appear on the Wiley InterScience website.
Copyright. To enable the publisher to disseminate the author¡¯s work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. A copy of the agreement to be used (which may be photocopied) can be found in the first issue of each volume of Progress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications. Copies may also be obtained from the journal editor or publisher, or may be printed from this website.
Further Information. Proofs will be sent to the author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimise the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. 25 complimentary offprints will be provided to the author who checked the proofs, unless otherwise indicated. Further offprints and copies of the journal may be ordered. There is no page charge to authors.
