Instructions to Authors

Electronic submission in the form of PostScript or PDF files of the complete article is strongly encouraged and will receive accelerated processing. Figures, if any, should be included in the PostScript or PDF file. For production purposes please send us the (La)TeX file and the figure files (EPS) as well; it is these files which will be used for publication. For the review process we prefer to use the PostScript or PDF file. Please visit: https://ppp.elsevier.nl/ppp/nupha/
If available please provide us also with the preprint number of the Los Alamos preprint server as well as the version date.

Contributions in hard-copy to Nuclear Physics A should be sent in triplicate to:

All papers are subject to refereeing. Letter-type contributions and unnecessarily long papers are unacceptable. Authors should make every effort to achieve the utmost concision compatible with clarity. They should make a careful survey of the literature to ensure that papers do not duplicate previous work and that relevant existing knowledge has been taken into account. It should be realised that the criteria for refereeing are very high. By submitting a paper for publication in Nuclear Physics A the authors imply that the material has not been published previously nor has been submitted for publication elsewhere.

The Editors and Publisher aim at the following time schedule: within one week of submission the author should have received acknowledgement of receipt of his/her manuscript. Within two months the author should have had notification of acceptance or rejection, or a request for revision. For post-acceptance desk-editorial matters, please contact the Publisher:

Preparation of contributions
1. Authors should take care that their contributions are written in good English.
2. Please adhere to the following order: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, PACS codes, Keywords, Los Alamos Database Number, Main text, Acknowledgements, Appendix, References, Vitae, Figure legends, Tables.
3. Please indicate the corresponding author: full postal address, E-mail address, telephone and fax numbers on the title page.
4. All papers should have an abstract of no more than 150 words.
5. Please supply us with one to four classification codes (PACS and/or MSC) and up to six keywords of your own choice that describe the content of your article in more detail.
6. References to other work should be consecutively numbered in the text using square brackets. They should be listed by number at the end of the article as in the following examples for a paper [1], for a book [2], for a conference report [3], for a laboratory report [4], for a preprint [5]:
[4] B. Potter, DESY-97-138, hep-ph/9707319.
[5] O. Bergman and M.R. Gaberdiel, Dualities of Type 0 strings, hep-th/9906055.
7. Do not mix footnotes and references.
8. Illustrations should also be submitted in triplicate. One set must be in publishable condition. Figures should be clearly numbered. For colour figures, see below.
9. Use the metric systems of units and abbreviations recommended by the SUN commission of the IUPAP, Physica A 93 (1978) 1.

Manuscripts
Manuscripts should be clearly typed on one side of the paper only, with wide margins and double spacing.

Electronic submission
The Publisher welcomes the receipt of an electronic version of your accepted manuscript. If you have not already done so, please send the electronic file of your accepted manuscript to the Editorial Office at the above address. Please note that no deviations from the version accepted by the Editors are permissible without the prior and explicit approval by the Editorial Office. Such changes should be clearly indicated on an accompanying print-out of the file.

LaTeX.
If the electronic file is suitable for processing by the Publisher, the article will be published without rekeying the full text. The article should be encoded in LaTeX, preferably using the Elsevier document class `elsart', or alternatively the standard document class `article' or the document style `revtex'.
The Elsevier LaTeX package (including detailed instructions to authors) can be obtained using anonymous FTP from the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network (CTAN) from the directory

/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/supported/elsevier

The participating hosts in the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network are:
ftp.shsu.edu (TX, USA),
ftp.dante.de (Germany),
ftp.tex.ac.uk (UK).

For a WWW interface to CTAN with the possibility to search the archive, visit the URL http://www.ucc.ie/cgi-bin/ctan/.
For a list of hosts maintaining a (partial) mirror of the CTAN archive, see the file '/tex-archive/CTAN.sites' on CTAN. In order to reduce network load, it is recommended that you use the CTAN host which is located in the closest network proximity to your site. Alternatively, you may wish to obtain a copy of the CTAN via CD-ROM (see 'help/CTAN.cdrom' on CTAN for details).

The files, as well as instructions in the form of a booklet, can also be obtained from the Publisher.

The Publisher reserves the right to decide whether to process a manuscript from the authors' file or not. Files coded in a simple and consistent manner are most likely to be used for production.

Proofs
Proofs will usually be printed on low-quality paper. Proofs will be sent to the author 4-6 weeks after acceptance. Please note that at this stage we are unable to accept large changes in, or additions to, the edited manuscript. In order to guarantee the fastest possible production times, the corrections should be sent to the Issue Management (see before), preferably by E-mail or fax, within 2 or 3 days of receipt. If no reply is received from the author, the Publisher assumes that there are no further corrections to be made and will proceed with publication of the article.

Colour figures

Elsevier would like to stimulate the usage of colour in manuscript, especially since they can be very useful in scientific articles. Elsevier is now able to reproduce the figures on the web in colour at no costs. If you supply Elsevier with usable colour figures with your Nuclear Physics A article, then Elsevier provides all artwork originated in colour as colour in the web product, regardless of whether it appears in the printed journal as colour.
