About the journal
Macromolecules publishes original research showcasing innovative concepts, experimental methods/observations, and theoretical approaches. That research is presented in comprehensive reports, brief communications to the editor, and technical notes focusing on all fundamental aspects of macromolecular science, including synthesis, polymerization mechanisms and kinetics, chemical modification, and solution/melt/solid-state characteristics, as well as surface properties of organic, inorganic, and naturally occurring polymers. |
|
The editors welcome regular articles, communications, notes, and occasionally reviews but will consider only those that have not been and are not to be published elsewhere. Articles should be comprehensive reports of significant results or conclusions. Communications should be preliminary reports of unusual urgency, significance, and interest. A communication must not exceed 1500 words and must have a combined total of no more than 4 figures, schemes, and/or tables for a maximum of 4 total manuscript pages. Notes are similar to articles but should not exceed 1500 words. A note treats a limited subject on which the author does not intend to publish later at greater length. Reviews should be short, critical surveys of progress in limited fields of polymer research during the previous 5-10 years and should also contain new and important information on the subject. Manuscripts are usually submitted to at least two experts for comments; authors are invited to recommend reviewers. Editors may reject manuscripts without review if they find that they are outside the central scope of Macromolecules or they would be better matched to the readers of a different journal.
Instructions to Authors
Information for Authors
Overview
To facilitate peer review, authors are strongly encouraged to place each item of artwork within the text of the manuscript, close to the point where it is discussed. Optional Document Templates are available below for preparing manuscripts for submission as well as for preparing final, accepted manuscripts.
See also Manuscript Preparation and Submission for complete information on acceptable software, preparing and submitting manuscripts using TeX/LaTeX, correct preparation of graphics, etc.
NOTE: Authors may now choose to submit their own Manuscript PDF File for use during the peer review process, or allow the system to generate a PDF automatically. Note that there are also special instructions for Preparing and Submitting Manuscripts Using TeX/LaTeX.
Table of Contents Graphic
Macromolecules publishes Table of Contents (TOC) graphics for all manuscripts. Therefore, all submissions to the journal must contain a TOC graphic. This graphic should capture the reader's attention and, in conjunction with the manuscript title, should give the reader a quick visual impression of the essence of the paper. The TOC graphic should be in the form of a structure, graph, drawing, SEM/TEM image, or reaction scheme. Tables or spectra are not acceptable. Color is encouraged and will be free of charge upon approval of the Editor. The author should submit a graphic in the actual size to be used for the TOC that will fit in an area 1.375 in. high and 3.5 in. wide (3.6 cm &mult; 8.9 cm). Larger images will be reduced to fit within those dimensions. Type size of labels, formulas, or numbers within the graphic must be legible. The page should be labeled "for Table of Contents use only" and contain the title and authors of the paper. This item should be appended as the last page of the manuscript.
Document Templates
The templates for Macromolecules are available below. While authors are encouraged to use a template, it is not mandatory.
All accepted manuscripts are typeset from electronic files. The template facilitates the peer review process by allowing authors to place artwork and tables close to the point where they are discussed within the text.
Please use U.S. Letter (8 1/2" by 11") paper size setting in the word processing program as the original document page size for preparation of all manuscripts. Do not use A4 or other size paper settings.
Please read the appropriate README file before downloading the template. This file contains more detailed information on what to expect when you download and use a template. Click on a link below to download the appropriate template that corresponds to the version of the word processing software on your computer.
