About the journal
The aim of the Journal of Reproductive Immunology is to provide the critical forum for the dissemination of results from high quality research in all aspects of experimental, animal and clinical reproductive immunology. The international character of the journal is reflected in the breadth of its Editorial Board and commitment to publish new and outstanding studies in different aspects of reproductive immunobiology from all five continents. Within the Journal, the Editors wish to bridge the gap between basic and clinical studies in all subareas of research relevant to reproductive immunobiology. This encompasses normal and pathological processes of reproductive tracts, gametes, fertilisation, implantation, gestation, parturition and lactation, including host defence to infectious disease, mucosal immunology, immunoendocrinology, reproductive immunotherapies, immunogenetics, developmental immunology and immunology of reproductive neoplasms, as well as application of immunological techniques in elucidation of reproductive processes or dysfunction.
Instructions to Authors
Types of Papers
(1) Full-length papers, generally not exceeding 3000 words of text with up to 4 figures and 4 tables (or equivalent).
(2) Short communications not exceeding 1500 words or equivalent space including figures, tables and references. These must be brief definitive reports and not preliminary findings.
(3) Reviews will be published following invitation from an Editor-in-Chief or Section Editor.
(4) Other articles (eg. Opinion Papers) are welcomed, but must include new data:concepts.
(5) Letters to the Editors (not exceeding 500 words).
All submissions other than Letters are subject to stringent peer-review procedures. The Editors wish to emphasise their preference for both clarity and conciseness in presentation style of manuscripts. Announcements of meetings, courses and book reviews will be included at the discretion of the Editors and the Publisher.
Submission of a paper to the Journal of Reproductive Immunology implies (i) that it is not being submitted for publication elsewhere and (ii) the transfer of the copyright from the authors to the Publishers. Manuscripts in English should be typed in double spacing with wide margins, on one side of paper only and should be accompanied by a separate title page bearing names and affiliations of authors, as well as a full postal address for correspondence together with fax:e-mail number if appropriate. Authors wishing to take advantage of anonymous refereeing should submit the original complete manuscript plus two copies with just the authors' names and affiliations removed from the title page.
Full-length papers must be divided into an Abstract (not exceeding 250 words) that summarises the problem, the major results and conclusion, Key Words (3-6 items), followed by
- Introduction: This should give the reasons for the study, but not an extensive review of all previous work in the area.
- Materials and Methods: This should be concise but with sufficient detail to allow the work to be repeated. Where appropriate, reference to previous published methodology should be made in place of reiteration of experimental detail.
- Results: These should be given in a brief and concise form. The method on which any statistical evaluation is based should be stated.
- Discussion: The significance of the results should be discussed in relation to other works and not just recapitulated.
Subheadings should be numerically labelled within each section. Any Acknowledgements should be placed immediately after the text, and prior to the Reference list.
Short communications should not be divided into sections, but should have a brief Abstract and a list of no more than 20 references.
Abbreviations should be explained at their first occurrence. Unusual abbreviations should be avoided, as should abbreviations of ordinary words.
Tables must be typed double-spaced on separate sheets, numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, and only contain horizontal lines. A short descriptive title should appear above each table, with possible legend and footnotes (identified with a, b, c, etc.) below.
Figures should be very sharp, well-contrasting and suitable for immediate reproduction. High quality computer-generated figures are preferred. Any patterns or shadings must be dark enough for reproduction and must be distinguishable from each other. Half-tone figures should be in black-and-white, very sharp, well-contrasting, and on glossy paper. Lettering should be large enough to permit photographic reproduction. All legends should be typed double-spaced on separate sheets. Reproduction in colour needs to be approved by the Editors; the extra cost will be charged to the author(s). Colour Reproductions are an extra cost that will be calculated by the Publisher and will be charged to the author(s).
All figures and tables should be comprehensible without reference to the text. A list of figures and tables must accompany the manuscript. Each figure should be marked on the back with the figure number and the first author's name. Where there is any doubt as to the orientation, the top should be marked with an arrow on the back of the figure.
References should be assembled on a separate sheet(s) and only relevant papers cited; exhaustive lists should be avoided. In the text, references should be cited by author and year (Harvard System). More than one paper from the same author in the same year must be identified separately by the letters a, b, c, etc. placed after the year of publication. In the text, when referring to a work by more than two authors, the name of the first author should be given followed by et al. In the reference list, citation of periodical, book or multi-author book articles should comply with the following examples:

Abbreviations of journal titles should conform to the current edition of Index Medicus. Only papers that have been published or accepted for publication (in press) should be listed in the references; unpublished observations and personal communications should be cited as such in the text.
The Editors reserve the right to make literary corrections and will request a final approved manuscript to be accompanied by a matching electronic disk.
Proofs will be sent to the author to check for type-setting accuracy and must be returned within 48 hours. No changes or additions to the original manuscript will be allowed at this stage.
Page charges There are no page charges.
Reprints may be ordered by completing and returning to the Publishers the order form sent to the authors with their proofs. Twenty-five free reprints per contribution will be forwarded to the corresponding author.
