The Journal of Quality Technology (JQT) is a peer-reviewed journal published by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). It contributes to the technical advancement of the quality sciences by publishing papers that emphasize the practical applicability of new statistical techniques on design of experiments, process monitoring, reliability, and applied statistics. Papers present new methods, case study examples, comparisons of existing methods, and reviews of the literature on topics of current interest.

The Journal of Quality Technology is consistently ranked by Journal Citation Report as one of the most cited journals in the areas of industrial engineering, management science, and statistics.

Look inside the latest issue and read the full-text articles and book reviews. You will also be able to peruse past issues and upcoming articles, review our author guidelines, order reprints, or subscribe.

The journal is published in January, April, July, and October.

Instructions to Authors

Journal of Quality Technology Author Guidelines

The review process will not be initiated until all of these items are received. Unless the author indicates otherwise, it will be assumed that all manuscripts submitted have not been published and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Manuscript Form

The manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, pages numbered, with wide margins on 8.5 X 11 inch paper that is heavy enough (16 or 20 pound weight) to take corrections. The title should be followed by each author’s name and affiliation (business or institutional address, including zip code). Sections should not be numbered. When used, equation numbers should be placed in parentheses flush right. Articles should be well-written so that non-statisticians are able to understand and use them. They should include a practical example illustrating the technique being discussed. Recent issues should be consulted for desired style and technical level. In addition, the following should be supplied.

  1. A short, but descriptive, title designed to provide the information that would attract an interested reader.
  2. An abstract of about 100 words, which can be used by abstracting services. The abstract should summarize the paper, including the results. It should not contain the title of the paper nor references.
  3. An introduction that will encourage quality control practitioners to read the article.
  4. A biographical footnote stating only each author’s position, ASQ membership grade, if any, and email address.
  5. Key Words.

Figures

Graphs, charts, and diagrams should be professionally drawn, larger in general than the size they will appear in print. Original copies, suitable for photographing, will be required upon acceptance of the manuscript.

Proofs

Galley proofs will be sent to the corresponding author for approval and corrections. A schedule of prices for reprints will be supplied with the proofs.

References

References should be listed at the end of the text, typed double-spaced, arranged alphabetically by author or, for anonymous works, by title. Only literature cited should be listed. All references quoted from, paraphrased, or alluded to in the manuscript should be referred to in the text by authors?last names followed by the year of publication in parentheses (i.e., Bass (1966)). If unpublished references are used, three copies of the work should be included for the referees?information. A sample reference list appears below. Note that journal titles are not abbreviated.
