About the journal
The Journal of Proteome Research manuscript submission process offers authors the flexibility of submitting manuscripts for consideration via a secure Web site or via conventional, hardcopy submission followed, after acceptance, by submission on disk. In addition, all authors (both conventional and Web-submitted manuscripts) are offered the option of receiving page proofs in hardcopy or via a secure Web site.

The Journal of Proteome Research invites contributions of original research in all aspects of global protein analysis and function. It will emphasize synergy between physical and life sciences resulting in a multi-disciplinary approach to the understanding of biological processes. In the selection of manuscripts for publication, the Editors place emphasis on the quality and originality of the work as well as the breadth of interest to readers and subscribers.

Instructions to Authors
Manuscripts can be submitted as Articles, Communications, Perspectives, Technical Notes, and Reviews. Reviews are to be comprehensive, critical accounts of work in a given area.

World Wide Web Publication. Documents accepted for publication in ACS Journals will be posted as Articles ASAP in the Web edition of the journal as soon as they are ready for publication (when galley proofs are corrected and all author concerns are resolved). Publication on the Web usually occurs within 24-48 hours of galley approval. Authors should take this into account when planning their intellectual and patent activities related to a document. The actual date on which the document is posted on the Web is recorded in a separate line at the bottom of the first page of the document in the printed issue. Please note: Once a manuscript appears on the Web, it is published. Any changes after that point must be considered ¡°Additions and Corrections¡±.

Related Work by Author. When related work by the author is quoted and such work is not available to the reviewers because it is ¡°in press¡± or has been submitted to this or other journals, such work should be submitted with the manuscript for use by the reviewers and the Editors. Include three copies if the manuscript is sent by mail. If the manuscript is submitted electronically, include an electronic version of the related work as Supporting Information and check the box labeled ¡°Appendix for Reviewers Only¡±.

Submission of Manuscripts

Authors can submit manuscripts via the Web or by mail (submission by the Web speeds up the review process). Manuscripts submitted as email attachments will not be accepted.

An optional electronic manuscript template is available in several word processing versions at the Journal of Proteome Research Web edition Home Page.

The template does not provide a facsimile of a published manuscript but facilitates the peer review process by providing authors with a means to place their artwork and tables close to the point where they are discussed in the text. While authors are encouraged to employ the template, it is not a requirement.

Copyright. A properly completed Copyright Status Form must be provided for each submitted manuscript. For mailed submissions, the original signed form must be sent with the manuscript package to the Editor. NOTE: A hardcopy version of the copyright form is required regardless of the mode of submission. For Web submissions, the completed form should be faxed to the Editor; the original signed form must also be mailed to the Editor. A form is available from the Web site.

Cover Letter. A cover letter must be submitted with the manuscript. It should include the following:

  • Manuscript title
  • Corresponding author¡¯s name, mailing address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address
  • Suggestions for possible reviewers
  • Preference for either Web or paper galley proof
  • Comments on the significance of the work
  • A list of any graphics to be published in color
Peer Review. It is strongly recommended that authors list several (5-8) appropriate reviewers for their research in their accompanying cover letter. Contact e-mail information for potential reviewers should be included. They may also request that a certain person not be used as a reviewer. Such a request will be honored by the Editor, unless he feels that an opinion from that person (in addition to those from other reviewers) is vital in the consideration of the manuscript.

The Editor generally seeks the advice of experts about manuscripts; however, manuscripts considered by the Editor to be inappropriate for the Journal of Proteome Research may be declined without review. The Editor, who accepts full responsibility for decisions about manuscripts, may not always follow the recommendations of reviewers. The names of reviewers will not be given to authors without the written consent of the reviewer.

Web Submission. To use Web submission, authors must be able to provide electronic versions of text and graphics. The electronic submission of Supporting Information is strongly encouraged to avoid subsequent delays in manuscript processing. Directions and an overview of the electronic submission process are available at paragon.acs.org.

The manuscript submission site employs state-of-the-art security mechanisms to ensure privacy for all electronically submitted manuscripts. These same security mechanisms are utilized throughout the peer review process, permitting access to only those editors and reviewers who are assigned to a particular manuscript.

Authors of Web-submitted manuscripts should submit final revisions of accepted manuscripts via the Submission Site. Secure access instructions will be provided by the Editor at the time revisions are requested.

Conventional Submission. Four complete copies of the manuscript should be sent to: William S. Hancock, Editor; Journal of Proteome Research. The corresponding author¡¯s mailing address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address should be included. NOTE: Final accepted manuscripts must be supplied in both hardcopy format and on disk. Do not send a disk with your initial submission.

A completed Media Description Form (PDF) must accompany the disk sent after acceptance. The disk should be labeled with the manuscript number and the corresponding author¡¯s name. It is important to follow disk preparation guidelines to ensure rapid publication. See the section File Preparation for Manuscript Revisions in the Preparation of Manuscripts document for details on preparing disk files. Fin
