About the journal
Journal of Cluster Science

The Journal of Cluster Science covers a broad range of topics in basic and applied cluster science in all phases: gas, solution, and crystalline or amorphous solids. Topics include the synthesis of molecular clusters or nanoparticulate materials; structure determination; bonding analysis; chemical and physical properties; mathematical models of cluster structure; molecular biology of clusters, and new instrumentation and experimental procedures for cluster research.

In addition to full papers, the journal publishes three special sections: Short Communications; The Forum; and Reviews of Cluster Research.

For nearly a decade, this outstanding publication has been a respected forum for high-quality, peer-reviewed original articles. Now, to better meet the needs of researchers from every corner of the cluster science community, the journal's scope has broadened to include nanomaterials, complementing its traditional focus on chemistry.

·                                 Aims and Scope

For nearly a decade, this outstanding publication has been a respected forum for high-quality, peer-reviewed original articles. Journal of Cluster Science covers a broad range of topics in basic and applied cluster science in all phases - gas, solution, and crystalline or amorphous solids - including:

the synthesis of molecular clusters or nanoparticulate materials
structure determination
bonding analysis
chemical and physical properties
mathematical models of cluster structure
molecular biology of clusters, and
new instrumentation or experimental procedures for cluster research.

In addition to full papers, the journal publishes three special sections: Short Communications; The Forum; and Reviews of Cluster Research.

New Wider Scope - To better meet the needs of researchers from every corner of the cluster science community, the editors have expanded the journal's scope to include nanomaterials, complementing its traditional focus on chemistry. As a truly interdisciplinary journal, contributions from the fields of chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and statistics are most welcome.

Publication Policies

Submission is a representation that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. A statement transferring copyright from the authors (or their employers, if they hold the copyright) to Springer will be required before the manuscript can be accepted for publication. Please find the Copyright Transfer Statement available for download at the upper right hand corner of the screen, under “For authors and editors.” Such a written transfer of copyright, which previously was assumed to be implicit in the act of submitting a manuscript, is necessary under the U.S. Copyright Law in order for the publisher to carry through the dissemination of research results and reviews as widely and effectively as possible.

Manuscript Style

Please submit manuscripts in standard word processing format (e.g. Word or WordPerfect) including all figures and tables. Manuscript must be double−spaced using generous margins on all sides.

Title Page

A title page is to be provided and should include

o                                                the title of the article

o                                                author’s name (no degrees)

o                                                author’s affiliation

o                                                and suggested running head

The affiliation should comprise

o                                                the department

o                                                institution (usually university or company)

o                                                city

o                                                and state (or nation)

and should be typedas a footnote to the author’s name. The suggested running head should be less than 80 characters (including spaces) and should comprise the article title or an abbreviated version thereof. For office purposes, the title page should include the complete mailing address and telephone number of the one author designated to review proofs.

Abstract

o                                                An abstract is to be provided, preferably no longer than 200 words.

Key Words

o                                                A list of 4–5 key words is to be provided directly below the abstract. Key words should express the precise content of the manuscript, as they are used for indexing purposes.

Headings

o                                                Text headings and subheadings should carry no numbers. In the text, abbreviations and nomenclature for chemical compounds should be those recommended by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. SI units are preferred.

Mathematical and Chemical Notation

o                                                Mathematical and chemical notation should be typewritten wherever possible. If handwritten notation must be used, it should be clear and legible, with any necessary explanatory notes located in the margin. Equations should be numbered consecutively throughout the paper with Arabic numerals in parentheses placed flush right, and should be thusly referred to in the text [such as Eqs. (2) and (4)].

References

List references numerically at the end of the paper. Use the appropriate Arabic numeral enclosed in square brackets on the baseline for citation in the text. Where there are three or more authors, only the first author’s name is given in the text, followed by et al.

References should include (mostly in this order):

o                                                initials and last names of all authors

o                                                year published

o                                                name of publication

o                                                volume number

o                                                and appropriate page(s)

The style and punctuation of the references should conform to that used in the journal – illustrated by the following examples:

o                                                Journal Article

1. B. Malawska, M. Gorczyca, and W. Wieczorek (1990). J. Crystallogr. Spectrosc. 20, 139.

o                                                Book

2. A. W. Vere, Crystal Growth: Principles and Progress (Plenum Press, New York, 1987).

o                                                Contribution to a Book

3. S. W. Buckner and B. S. Freiser, in D. H. Russell (ed.), Gas Phase Inorganic Chemistry (Plenum Press, New York, 1989), pp. 279−−322.

Footnotes

o                                                Footnotes should be avoided. When their use is absolutely necessary, footnotes should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals and should be typed at the bottom of the page to which they refer. Place a line above the footnote, so that it is set off from the text. Use the appropriate superscript numeral for citation in the text.

Illustration Style

o                                                Illustrations (photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts) are to be numbered in one consecutive series of Arabic numerals. The captions for illustrations should be on a separate page. All illustrations must be complete and final, i.e., camera−ready. Photographs should be large, high-resolution, and high contrast. Either original drawings or good−quality photographs are acceptable.

o                                                All figures submitted in color will be reproduced in color free of charge in the electronic version of the journal. Color reproduction in print is encouraged but because of the expense the cost of color reproduction in print must be borne by the author. Please indicate if you are willing to bear such costs, and we will prepare an estimate for you.

o                                                Tables should be numbered (with Roman numerals) and referred to by number in the text. Each table should be on a separate page. Center the title above the table.

Reports on Crystallographic Analyses

Reports of X−ray structural determinations should include tables of crystal data, atomic positional parameters, selected interactomic distances and angles, and a labeled structural diagram (e.g., ORTEP or PLUTO type) for each analysis. Data collection procedures, structure solution methods, and computer programs used should be discussed in the Experimental section. CIF files of all structural analyses should be uploaded as Supplementary Materials. Exceptionally lengthy or multiple listings of atomic positional parameters should also be included as Supplementary Material.

It is recommended that authors deposit all crystallographic data for organic or organometallic compounds with the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) prior to manuscript submission and include the CCDC deposition number in the Experimental section by inserting the following statement: "Crystallographic data for the structural an alysis(es) have been deposited with the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre, CCDC Nos. xxxxxx, yyyyyy, and zzzzzz for compounds X, Y, and Z. Copies of this information may be obtained free of charge from The

Page Charges

The journal makes no page charges. Reprints are available to authors, and order forms with the current price schedule are sent with proofs.

Springer Open Choice

In addition to the normal publication process (whereby an article is submitted to the journal and access to that article is granted to customers who have purchased a subscription), Springer now provides an alternative publishing option: Springer Open Choice. A Springer Open Choice article receives all the benefits of a regular subscription−based article, but in addition is made available publicly through Springers online platform SpringerLink. To publish via Springer Open Choice, upon acceptance please visit the link below to complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information. Payment must be received in full before publication or articles will publish as regular subscription−model articles. We regret that Springer Open Choice cannot be ordered for published articles.
