About the journal
The merger of the Petroleum Society of Canada and SPE has brought the Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology to the SPE family of journals. During the remainder of 2009, SPE will be transitioning this journal to the peer review system used for its other journals. Until that process is complete, manual submission via email will be required.
Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology focuses on heavy oil and oil sands technology, thermal recovery techniques, unconventional gas supplies, optimization techniques, increasing recovery from older basins, and other technologies designed for the production challenges of Canada. Most of these technologies have worldwide applications as well.
Instructions to Authors
The upstream oil and gas industry has advanced because engineers, scientists, and managers share their knowledge, experiences, and discoveries through technical papers and presentations. This section provides guidance and resources to allow you to contribute to the industry's literature through SPE.
Papers presented at SPE conferences are selected by program committees from abstracts of the proposed presentation. Here you will find guidelines for writing and submitting a paper proposal for SPE conferences or symposia.
Your paper proposal was accepted. But now you need to write the full paper and submit it by the deadline. This section provides guidelines on what makes a well-written contribution to the conference.
NEW! Watch "You and SPE: Why you can and should write a technical paper for SPE"
You submitted your manuscript, and the conference date is approaching. This section will help you prepare an effective presentation. Was your paper accepted as a poster? Get guidelines for poster presentation here also.
As part of the manuscript submission process, you'll be asked whether you'd like your paper submitted for peer review. Before you say yes, check the guidelines on whether your paper is a good candidate for peer review.
While most papers submitted for peer review come from SPE meetings, manuscripts can also be submitted directly for peer review. Learn what's required.
SPE journals follow a different format for manuscripts than meeting papers. Learn how to format your paper for peer review.
SPE also publishes a variety of technical books for our industry. Learn about the types of books published and what's required to submit a book proposal.
