About the journal

                       International Reviews in Physical Chemistry

This journal publishes review articles describing frontier research areas in physical chemistry. Internationally renowned scientists describe their own research in the wider context of the field. The articles are of interest not only to specialists but also to those intent on reading general and authoritative accounts of recent developments in physical chemistry, chemical physics and theoretical chemistry. The journal appeals to research workers, lecturers and research students alike.

Instructions to Authors

***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***

Authoritative review articles provide an important means of helping specialists and generalists alike to keep abreast of advances in expanding subjects. In promoting this review journal in physical chemistry and chemical physics, the Editors aim to cater for the needs of the research worker and the teacher in the various branches of higher education, and of the many scientists working in adjacent fields, such as physics, biophysics and materials science.

It is not intended that the journal should achieve a comprehensive coverage of physical chemistry. Rather, it is the intention that scholarly and critical reviews should cover the important and developing aspects of modern physical chemistry, including theoretical chemistry and chemical physics. Established topics will be revisited from time to time, and new ones identified as their importance grows. Emphasis will be placed on clarity of presentation, while each review will also show signs of the 'expert' touch.

Papers for consideration should be sent to one of the Editors at the addresses given below. For paper submission, please send two high-quality copies. The Editors are happy to discuss arrangements for electronic submission, but papers should not be sent electronically without prior arrangement.

Papers are accepted for consideration on condition that you will accept and warrant the following conditions:

  1. You will transfer copyright to Taylor & Francis Limited, should the work be accepted for publication.
  2. The work is your original work, and cannot be construed as plagiarising any other published work.
  3. You own the copyright in the work.
  4. You are empowered by your fellow author(s) to make a submission to this Journal, and to make any agreement relating to the work.

  9. You warrant that the work does not include content that is abusive, defamatory, libellous, obscene, fraudulent, or in violation of applicable laws.

If it is found acceptable for publication, you shall retain the right to use the substance of the above work in future works, on condition that you acknowledge its prior publication in the journal, and to the publishers Taylor & Francis Ltd.

The copyright in the work shall revert to you if the paper is not published.

There are no page charges in International Reviews in Physical Chemistry

The journal has a limited number of free colour pages within its annual page allowance. Authors should consult the Editor with respect to colour reproduction at submission stage. Any figure submitted as a colour original may appear in colour within the journal's online edition. Colour reproduction in excess of the journal's budget will only be considered on condition that authors contribute to the associated costs.

  1. Manuscripts should be typed, double spaced, single side, on standard A4 paper with a left-hand margin of 4 cm.
  2. An Abstract of up to 250 words should be provided.

  3. Special care should be given in the presentation of the article. The Introduction should be informative and intelligible to a wide range of readers. Reviews should be of length 5000-35000 words.
  4. References can be done numerically, but the tradition with this journal has been to cite references in the text in the following form:

       " ... as suggested by Abel (1988)..."

or with name(s) and date in parentheses:

"... it was shown (Baker and Charles 1988) that ....".

Use the form (Baker et al. 1988) where there are more than two authors, but list all authors in the references. If this form is used, references should be listed alphabetically at the end of the text, as in the following examples:

  5. Authors are required to transfer the copyright in their papers to the publishers and a transfer form will be sent with the proofs. Authors will receive a form from the publishers for ordering offprints. One hundred offprints will be provided free.
  6. If authors use figures identical to those of a previous publication they should write to the publisher to ask permission to use the figures again.
  7. A fee of $200 will be sent to the leading author after publication of the article. A copy of the the number in which the article is published will be sent to the leading author.
  8. Provide two hard copies of the article and figures. Please also provide the manuscript on a disk labelled with the word processing package and computer type used. See the "Instructions for processing your article electronically".
