About the journal
The International Journal of Energy Research is dedicated to providing an interdisciplinary platform for the discussion of issues arising in energy research without the constraints imposed by aiming at a restricted audience.
The subject matter of the Journal is concerned with the development and exploitation of both traditional and new fuels and other sources of energy, and interdisciplinary subjects are encouraged. We solicit papers in, but are not limited to, the following areas: solar, nuclear, wavepower and wind energy, heat pumps, building, transport and district heating, energy conservation, synthetic fuels and industrial energy research and storage.
The Editors do not wish to restrict the areas of energy research suitable for publication, but would suggest some guidelines. Submitted material should report on original work, which may be in an area of scientific or technological development, or in the equally important area of feasibility. It is hoped that in all cases emphasis will be placed on some aspects of a particular field or group of energy possibilities, and that discussion of feasibility and possible strategy be aimed at a specific target rather than at a generalized concept of energy policy.
The Journal also carries reviews on important development areas and these may either be submitted in the normal way or invited by the editors. Contributions may be either normal 'full length' research papers or 'short communications'.

Instructions to Authors
Initial manuscript submission. Submit three copies of the manuscript (including copies of tables and illustrations) to Professor J. T. McMullan, Director, Centre for Energy Research, University of Ulster, Cromore Road, Coleraine, Ulster BT52 1SA, Northern Ireland, UK. Alternatively, submission can be made through any member of the Editorial Board.
Authors must also supply:
- an electronic copy of the final version (see section below),
- a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to accept the submission, and
- permission grants - if the manuscript contains extracts, including illustrations, from other copyright works (including material from on-line or intranet sources) it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission from the owners of the publishing rights to reproduce such extracts using the Wiley Permission Request Form. Permission grants should be submitted with the manuscript.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published and should not be submitted for publication elsewhere while they are under consideration by Wiley. Submitted material will not be returned to the author unless specifically requested.
Electronic submission. The electronic copy of the final, revised manuscript must be sent to the Editor together with the paper copy. Disks should be PC or Mac formatted; write on the disk the software package used, the name of the author and the name of the journal. We are able to use most word-processing packages, but prefer Word, WordPerfect or TeX or one of its derivatives. Illustrations must be submitted in electronic format where possible. Save each figure as a separate file, in TIFF or EPS format preferably, and include the source file. Write on the disk the software package used to create them; we favour dedicated illustration packages over tools such as Excel or Powerpoint.
Manuscript style. The language of the journal is English and spelling should conform to that of the Oxford English Dictionary. All submissions must have a title, be printed on one side of the paper, be double-line spaced and have a margin of 3 cm all round. Illustrations and tables must be printed on separate sheets, and not be incorporated into the text.
- The title page must list the full title and the names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including e-mail, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.
- Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
- Supply a summary of up to 500 words for all articles. This is a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work.
- Include up to eight key words that describe your paper for indexing purposes.
Reference style. References should be quoted as name and year within parentheses and listed at the end of the paper alphabetically. All references must be complete and accurate. Online citations should include date of access. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:
Daffrie JB, Buckman W. 1996. Introduction to solar engineering. In Solar Engineering of Thermal Processes, Brown J (ed.); Reference Series II. Wiley: New York; 12-15.
Fujioka Y, Takeuchi K, Shindo Y, Komiyama H. 1994. Shrinkage of liquid CO2 droplets in water. International Journal of Energy Research. 18(8): 765-769.
Illustrations. Supply each illustration on a separate sheet, with the lead author's name, the figure number and the top of the figure indicated. Supply original photographs; photocopies or previously printed material are not acceptable. Line artwork must be high-quality laser output (not photocopies). Tints are not acceptable; lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. Electronic versions of the artwork should be supplied at the intended size for printing; the maximum column width is 143 mm. The cost of printing colour illustrations in the journal will be charged to the author. If colour illustrations are supplied electronically in either TIFF or EPS format, they may be used in the PDF of the article at no cost to the author, even if this illustration was printed in black and white in the journal. The PDF will appear on the Wiley InterScience website.
Copyright. To enable the publisher to disseminate the author's work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. A copy of the agreement to be used (which may be photocopied) can be found in the first issue of each volume of the International Journal of Energy Research. Copies may also be obtained from the journal editor or publisher, or may be printed from this website.
Further information. Proofs will be sent to the author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimize the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. Twenty-five complimentary offprints will be provided to the author who checked the proofs, unless otherwise indicated. Further offprints and copies of the journal may be ordered. There is no page charge to authors.
