About the journal
THE IEEE JOURNAL OF SELECTED TOPICS IN QUANTUM ELECTRONICS is published six times a year. Original contributions are solicited within the broad field of science and technology of quantum electronics of either a device-, subject-, or system-oriented nature. Each issue is devoted to a specific topic within this broad spectrum. IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics
Field of Interest
Lasers, optical devices, optical fibers and associated lightwave technology and their application in systems and subsystems, in which the quantum electronic devices are key elements. The Society is concerned with the research, development, design, manufacture, and applications of materials, devices and systems, and with the various scientific and technological activities which contribute to the useful expansion of the field of quantum electronics and applications.
Instructions to Authors
THE IEEE JOURNAL OF SELECTED TOPICS IN QUANTUM ELECTRONICS is published six times a year. Original contributions are solicited within the broad field of science and technology of quantum electronics of either a device-, subject-, or system-oriented nature. Each issue is devoted to a specific topic within this broad spectrum. Announcements of the topical areas planned for future issues, along with deadlines for receipt of manuscripts, are published in this JOURNAL and in the IEEE JOURNAL OF QUANTUM ELECTRONICS. Generally, the scope of manuscripts appropriate to this JOURNAL is the same as that for the IEEE JOURNAL OF QUANTUM ELECTRONICS. Manuscripts are solicited that report original theoretical and/or experimental research results that advance the scientific and technological base of quantum electronics devices, systems, or applications. The JOURNAL is dedicated toward publishing research results that advance the state of the art or add to the understanding of the generation, amplification, modulation, detection, waveguiding, or propagation characteristics of coherent electromagnetic radiation having submillimeter and shorter wavelengths. In order to be suitable for publication in this JOURNAL, the content of manuscripts concerned with subject-related research must have a potential impact on advancing the technological base of quantum electronic devices, systems, and/or applications. Potential authors of subject-related research have the responsibility of pointing out this potential impact. System-oriented manuscripts must be concerned with systems that perform a function previously unavailable or that outperform previously established systems that did not use quantum electronic components or concepts. Manuscripts reporting improvements in the performance of well-known systems by clever electronics or mechanical engineering do not fall within the scope of this JOURNAL. Tutorial and review papers are by invitation only. "Information for IEEE Transactions and Journal Authors" is available on request from the IEEE Transactions Department, 445 Hoes Lane, P.O. It is the policy of the IEEE to own the copyright to the technical contributions it publishes on behalf of the interest of the IEEE, its authors, and their employers, and to facilitate the appropriate reuse of this material by others. To comply with IEEE policy under the U.S. Copyright Law, authors are required to sign an IEEE copyright transfer form before publication. This form, a copy of which appears in each January issue of this journal, returns to authors and their employers full right to reuse their material for their own purposes. Authors must submit a signed copy of this form with manuscripts.
Electronic Publication
Electronic Publication/Disk Submission Instructions: Including Information for Figures on Disk
The IEEE requires that you submit one disk containing the text portion of your paper and one or more separate disks containing the figures, together with your hard copies for publication.
Submission
Please submit:
- an original and three hard copies of all manuscripts, including the original ink drawings and/or glossy photographs of the figures,
- references which must include full titles and first and last page numbers of articles
- indexing keywords
- the completed copyright release form
- an electronic version containing the paper
- photographs and short biographies of the authors.

Page Charges
After a manuscript has been accepted for publication, the author's company or institution will be requested to pay a charge of $110 per printed page to cover part of the cost of publication. In addition, overlength paper charges of $220 per printed page for contributed papers are mandatory for each page or part thereof over eight. Payment of page charges for contributed papers (first eight pages only) for this IEEE JOURNAL is not a prerequisite for publication. The authors will receive 100 free reprints (without covers) if the page charge is honored. Detailed instructions will accompany the page proofs.
