About the journal
Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe is a scientific journal, published in English with Polish abstracts, devoted to scientific research & development of the manufacturing and processing of fibre-grade polymers, including biopolymers, fibres, fibrous products, and textile technologies. Some of the problems discussed in the journal are trends in fibre development, theory and practice of new technologies and techniques for manufacturing and modifying polymers, fibres and textiles, among others, by means of waste free, biotechnological processes and the manufacturing of special fibres and fibrous products, especially from modified natural and synthetic polymers such as cellulose derivatives, lignins, chitin and chitosan. Special attention is paid to works presenting problems related to bioactivity, biocompatibility, biodegradability, textile waste utilisation and waste-water.
In the 'General problems part, economical and legal aspects of investment restructuring and trade in textiles & clothing are considered. Special attention is given to the processes of the mutual integration of European Union countries and their cooperation with countries outside the Union. Fibres & Textile in Eastern Europe constitutes a forum for the exchange of information and the establishment of mutual contact for cooperation between scientific centres, as well as, between science and industry.
During the first years of publishing Fibres & Textile in Eastern Europe, a part devoted to ‘Fibre and textile art’, with world achievements in textile art has been presented in each issue of the journal. At present, this part has been presented from time to time.
Since the beginning of 1993 Fibres & Textiles in Easter Europe has been publishing by the Institute of Biopolymers and Chemical Fibres, Łódź, Poland. Since 2008 Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Kaunas, Lithuania, has participated in the publication process.
The journal’s title, which mirrors its initial character as a forum for publications of authors from Poland and other countries of the region, being under political and economic transformation, at present is only a historical one as the articles published in Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europeare by authors from the whole world . Almost from the very beginning, the journal’s content has been indexed by leading world databases, such as Chemical Abstract, Referativny Zhurnal, Elsevier Geo Abstracts, Toga Fitz Technik, Rapra Technology, World Textile Publications, Textile Institute – Manchester, and the British Library.
At the beginning of 1999 (Vol.7, No.1), the Institute of Scientific Information (at present called ISI ‘Thompson Scientific’ list), Philadelphia, USA placed our journal on the ISI Master Journal List, which lists the best scientific journals in the world and is indexed by their data- bases, including the Material Science Citation Index. Since 2002 the journal has had the so called ‘Impact Factor’ and is at present one of only a few world journals on the ISI-list dealing with such a broad range of fibre and textile problems.
In 1999 the journal was decorated with the Gold Order of the Polish Textile Association.
The titles of articles together with their English and Polish abstracts, as well as an index of the authors, are placed on our Internet website. Since 2002 (Vol.10, No.3) all articles have been accessible for free on our website (www.fibtex.lodz.pl), which enables a quick and broad dissemination of the authors’ scientific achievements. Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe is a quarterly, but additional issues devoted to particular problems of fibre and textile science are edited almost every year. Additional issues are published also in order to shorten the publishing period, which unfortunately at present can extend to even two years due to the great number of articles received for publishing. In the foreseeable future the editors plan to change the publishing policy and transform Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe into a bi-monthly journal.
An example of the journal's development is the increase in annually published pages: from 180 in 1993 to 776 in 2008.
In Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe, the authors published originate from countries all over the world, which at present are the following:
Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, P. Instructions to Authors
Information for Authors
The papers and information submitted for publication should concern problems of the science of fibre-grade polymers, biopolymers, fibres, textiles, and fibrous products including paper-pulp and paper, problems associated with investigation into the production and application of the above-mentioned products, as well as with the economics of fibres & textiles, and the fibre & textile world market.
Generally, all articles in the sections 'Research and Development' and 'General Problems' are independently reviewed by at least two reviewers, well-known scientists and experts in the area the article concerns. The editors reserve the right not to publish an article assessed by the reviewers as inappropriate regarding the subject matter or level.
The submission of the above-mentioned papers is a statement that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Each author is obliged to sign a 'Contract for transferral of author's rights' (copyright), which also contains the information mentioned above. We send the copyright after preliminary acceptance of the article for publication in our journal. In those cases where the paper has been presented at a conference, it can be published in Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe only if it has not been published in generally available conference materials; in the event of presentation it is necessary to give an appropriate statement note placed after the heading.
Manuscripts should be submitted in English in double-spaced typing (two copies), on one side of A-4 paper together with an electronic version of the paper on Word in a Windows format (on CD-ROM or by e-mail).
The volume of papers submitted should not exceed 16 standardised (1800 characters) typescript pages, including tables, figures and photographs. The editors reserve the right to shorten an article if necessary and to alter titles.
The manuscript should be headed with a title of less than 120 characters, the authors' name and forename(s), the full names of their affiliation (university, institute, company), department, city and state as well as a complete mailing address with telephone number and e-mail.
Authors are requested to give an abstract of the paper, no longer than 150 words, and a list of 4-6 key words.
For papers which have been translated into English from Polish or Russian, the authors are requested to submit one Polish or Russian copy with a title, abstract and key words.
SI units must be used, or at least comprehensive explanations given, and abbreviations according to IUPAC and ISO standards. Footnotes should be avoided. When their use is absolutely necessary, they should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals and appended at the end of the paper.
References cited should be listed at the end of the paper in the order of quotation, and referred to by number in square brackets in the text and contain the following information: for a paper in a periodical - the initials and surname of the author(s), title of the journal, volume, number, year of issue, and page numbers; for a book - the initials and surname of the author(s), full name of the book, publisher, place and year of publishing and the pages cited; for patents - the country, patent number and year; for papers published on conferences – the initials, surname of the author(s), conference’s title, town, year, title of paper in English; for Ph.D. thesis – the initials, surname of the author(s), title in English, university, town, year.
All tables and figures should be numbered (with Arabic numerals) consecutively and separately throughout the paper, and referred to by number in the text. Photographs should be numbered as figures. Tables and figures with headings as well as all lettering and labelling required should be submitted on separate sheets of paper.
Line illustrations and photographs must be additionally submitted in electronic version (on CD-ROM or by e-mail) with information regarding the respective software. Reproductions of line illustrations or photographs in colour are possible by special arrangement, with the total cost borne by the author. Please do not send any illustrations with a resolution smaller than 300 pixels/cm.
