About the journal

Evolutionary Computation provides an international forum for facilitating and enhancing the exchange of information among researchers involved in both the theoretical and practical aspects of computational systems of an evolutionary nature.

The journal publishes both theoretical and practical developments of computational systems drawing their inspiration from nature, with particular emphasis on evolutionary algorithms (EAs), including, but not limited to, genetic algorithms (GAs), evolution strategies (ESs), evolutionary programming (EP), genetic programming (GP), classifier systems (CSs), and other natural computation techniques.

Instructions to Authors

Submission Guidelines

The journal Evolutionary Computation invites authors to submit both theoretical and practical developments of computational systems drawing their inspiration from nature, with particular emphasis on evolutionary models of computation. Papers should describe mature work that is original in nature and which is neither published nor currently under review elsewhere. Submissions should be approximately 8,000 to 12,000 words in length and formatted following the Evolutionary Computation style (see below). Papers should be no longer than 30 pages including references. References should follow the APA format both in text and in the reference list. Figures and tables should be mentioned in the text and numbered consecutively along with a brief title. Color figures are not permitted.

To ease the reviewing process, figures and tables should be embedded in the text.

Submissions should be made electronically, in Postscript or PDF format. However, as all papers accepted for publication must be finally submitted as a LATEX file to go to press, the preferred first submission format is the LATEX format for final papers. The Evolutionary Computation style file, ecj.sty, and sample LATEXfile, ecjsample.tex, together with the corresponding postscript output containing the detailed formatting instructions in file ecjsample.ps, may be obtained by anonymous ftp from ftp.inria.fr in directory /pub/ecj.

Any inquiries, concerning editorial issues as well as submission format, and submissions themselves should be directed by E-mail to the Editor:
