About the journal

Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics is an important source for the latest information on the medical use of new computer applications in radiological imaging, 3-D imaging and microscopy, including research methods and results in CT, MR, PET, SPECT, digital radiology, DSA, ultrasound, confocal microscopy, 3-D reconstruction, image analysis and color analysis. The Journal provides for the rapid review of original research papers, review articles, and preliminary research publications in this important field.

Instructions to Authors

Manuscripts for review should be sent directly to the Managing Editor of Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics. Blaire Mossman, at the following address:

Blaire V. Mossman

Managing Editor

P.O. Box 13177

blaire.mossman@asu.edu

Books for review should also be sent to the Managing Editor. Authors should note that the original manuscripts and diagrams will be discarded one month after publication unless the Publisher is requested (on submission of manuscript) to return original material to the author.

Style of Manuscript

General Form: Manuscripts should be typewritten on one side of the paper only, with double spacing and liberal margins. Manuscripts should be submitted in duplicate, i.e. an original and one copy. Two glossy prints of illustrations are required. The title of the paper and the author's name and complete mailing address, including telephone and fax numbers, and E-mail address, if available, should be given on a covering sheet. The publication language is English.

Submission of manuscripts on disk: Authors are encouraged to submit a computer disk (5.25" or 3.5" HD/DD disk) containing the final version of the paper along with the final manuscript to the editorial office. Please observe the following criteria. (1) Send only hard copy when first submitting your paper. (2) When your paper has been refereed, revised if necessary and accepted, send a disk containing the final version with the hard copy. Make sure that the disk and hard copy match exactly. (3) Specify what software was used, including which release, e.g. WordPerfect 4.0. (4) Specify what computer was used (either IBM-compatible PC of Apple Macintosh). (5) Include the text file and separate table and illustration files. (6) The file should follow the general instruction on style/arrangement and, in particular, the reference style of this journal as given below. (7) The file should be single-spaced and should use the wrap-around end-of-line feature, i.e. no returns at the end of each line. All textual elements should begin flush left; no paragraph indents. Place two returns after every element such as title, headings, paragraphs, figure and table call-outs. (8) Keep a back-up disk for reference and safety.

Summary: A summary at the end of the paper (not exceeding 500 words) should accompany the manuscript on a separate sheet.

Abstract: A short abstract in English (not exceeding 100 words) should immediately precede the introduction.

Key Words: Enclose with each manuscript, at the end of the abstract, 5-10 key words. These terms should be relatively independent (coordinate index terms), and as a group should optimally characterize the paper.

Text: The following should be used: Fig. For figure, Ref. for reference. Reference numbers should be set on the line with parentheses and should precede the punctuation. Equation numbers should appear in parentheses on line, and table numbers as Arabic numerals. Equations may be carefully handwritten only where necessary, and all Greek and script symbols should be clearly identified. Particular attention should be made in identifying the numeral 1 and the letter l.

References: Type references double-spaced in CBE numbered style (number them consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text, not alphabetically. Examples of reference style are as follows:

Illustrations: Illustrations and tables accompanying manuscripts should be numbered (provided with suitable legends on a separate sheet), and marked lightly on the back with the author's name. Authors should indicate on the manuscript the appropriate positions of tables and text figures. A reasonable number of halftone illustrations will be reproduced free of cost to the author, but special arrangements must be made with the editor for color plates. Copy for line diagrams (such as pen drawings and charts) must be drawn and lettered in India ink, or black typewriter ribbon may be used for lettering. The lettering should be large enough to be legible after reduction. It will facilitate publication if line diagrams are submitted in a form suitable for direct reproduction. The following standard symbols should be used on line drawings since they are readily available to the printer:

(open circle), (closed circle), (open triangle), (closed triangle), (open square), (closed square), + x (open upside down triangle), (closed upside down triangle).

Submit two good glossy prints of illustrations, both halftones and line drawings.

Footnotes: Footnotes, as distinct from literature references, should be indicated by the following symbols: *, , , ? , commencing anew on each page.

Refereeing Procedure

To ensure fairness, each manuscript will be assessed anonymously by at least two independent reviewers. Constructive criticism provided by the assessors will be forwarded to the author.

Page Proofs and Offprints

Corrections to proofs should be restricted to printer's errors only. Other than these, substantial alterations may be charged to the author. Each author will receive with his proofs an offprint order form which should be completed and returned to the Publisher with the proofs. Offprints and copies of the issue may be purchased at a reasonable price if ordered on the offprint form.
