About the journal

Chaos, Solitons & Fractals provides a medium for the rapid publication of full length original papers, short communications, reviews and tutorial articles in the following subjects:-bifurcation and singularity theory, deterministic chaos and fractals, stability theory, soliton and coherent phenomena, formation of pattern, evolution, complexity theory and neural networksContributions on both fundamental and applied studies are welcome, but the emphasis of the journal will be on applications in the following fields:

Instructions to Authors

NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS
Submission of papers

Papers must be in English. Send three copies to the Editor-in-Chief Professor M.S. E Naschie at the address below, or to one of the Regional Editors.

Submission of a paper implies that the work has not been previously published nor simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere. All papers are refereed. It is a condition of publication that manuscripts submitted to this journal have not been published and will not be simultaneously submitted or published elsewhere.

The manuscript should comprise: abstract (200 words or less; main body of paper; acknowledgements; appendices; references. It is Recommended that, where possible, authors supply a FAX number and an e-mail address so that any editorial queries can be speedily dealt with. Regular manuscripts should be typed in double spacing throughout on good quality white paper, on one side of the page, with adequate margins.

Mathematical expressions
Mathematical symbols and formulae should be typed. Identify unusual mathematical symbols and abbreviations at their first appearance. Distinguish between capital and lower case; between the letter O and zero (0); between the letter l and the number 1; between k and kappa. Use the following sequence of parentheses: )]}. Vectors and tensors should be clearly identified throughout the manuscripts. Standard symbols should be used whenever possible, preferably those recommended by the American Standards Association. Equations should be numbered in a single sequence and equation numbers should appear in parentheses on the right-hand side of the page.

Units
Use Systeme International (S) units. Other units may be included in parentheses.

Figures (photographs, diagrams and graphs)
All illustrations should be provided in camera-ready form, suitable for reproduction (which may include reduction) without retouching. In addition, illustrations should be sent in electronic form wherever possible, with each illustration included as an individual TIFF or EPS file.
Figures should be numbered consecutively in the order which they are referred to. They should not be included in the manuscript pages. The following standard symbols should be used as they are readily available to the typesetter: . Figure captions should be typed on a single sheet and placed at the end of the manuscript. The amount of lettering on a drawing should be reduced as far as possible by transferring it to the legend.

Colour illustrations
Figures may be published in colour, if this is judged essential by the Editor. The Publisher and the author will each bear part of the extra costs involved. Further information is available from the Publisher.

Tables
Tables should be numbered consecutively and given a suitable caption, and each table typed on a separate sheet.

References
References should be denoted in the text by numbers in brackets and listed, with full paper titles, at the end of the paper in numerical order, in the following style:

Electronic submission

Authors should save their electronic copy to disk or CD ROM and submit it by post with the final version of the manuscript. The electronic copy should match the hardcopy exactly. Always keep a backup copy of your electronic file for reference and safety. Full details of electronic submission and formats can be obtained from http://authors.elsevier.com

PDF Proofs
PDF proofs and query sheets will be sent to the author (first named author if no corresponding author is identified of multi-authored papers) by E-mail. If no -mail address is provided a hardcopy will be sent. All proofs should be returned within 48 hours of receipt. The corresponding author should supply a full postal address, E-mail address and, where possible, a fax number. Correction should be restricted to typesetting errors; any others may be charged to the author. Any queries should be answered in full. Please note that authors are urged to check their proofs carefully before return, since the inclusion of late corrections cannot be guaranteed.

Copyright
All authors must sign the 'Transfer of Copyright' agreement before the article can be published. This transfer agreement enables Elsevier Science Ltd to protect the copyrighted material for the authors, but does not relinquish the authors' proprietary rights. The copyright transfer covers the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including reprints, photographic reproductions, microform or any other reproductions of similar nature and translations, and includes the right to adapt the article for use in conjunction with computer systems and programs, including reproduction or publication in machine-readable form and incorporation in retrieval systems. Authors are responsible for obtaining from the copyright holder permission to reproduce any figures for which copyright exists.

Offprints
Twenty-five offprints will be supplied free of charge. Additional offprints can be ordered using the order form sent to the corresponding author after the manuscript has been accepted. Orders for reprints (produced after publication of an article) will incur a 50% surcharge.

Author enquiries
Authors can keep a track on the progress of their accepted article, and set up e-mail alerts informing them of changes to their manuscript's status, by using the 'Track a Paper' feature of Elsevier's Author Gateway http://authors.elsevier.com. The Author Gateway also contains detailed submission instructions, artwork guidelines and other author-related information. Contact details for questions arising after acceptance of an article, especially those relating to proofs, are provided when an article is accepted for publication.

Manuscripts for publication should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief, Professor M.S. El Naschie, Chaos, Solitons & Fractals, P.O.Box 272, Cobham, Surrey KT11 2FQ, UK. Alternatively manuscripts may be submitted to the nearest Regional Editor. Authors from Japan and China are strongly advised to submit their manuscripts to the respective Regional Editor in order to avoid unnecessary delay.
