About the journal
Aims and scope under the direction of the Institute for Computational Mathematics in Pisa. Calcolo publishes original contributions in English on Numerical Analysis and its Applications, and on the Theory of Computation.
The main focus of the journal is on Numerical Linear Algebra, Approximation Theory and its Applications, Numerical Solution of Differential and Integral Equations, Computational Complexity, Algorithmics, Mathematical Aspects of Computer Science, Optimization Theory.
Expository papers will also appear from time to time as an introduction to emerging topics in one of the above mentioned fields. There will be a "Report" section, with abstracts of PhD Theses, news and reports from conferences and book reviews. All submissions will be carefully refereed.
As of 1998, the Journal is published by Springer-Verlag.
Instructions to Authors
Preparation of Your Paper We welcome manuscripts written in TeX or La- TeX, particularly if the Springer macropackages svcalcolo have been used (further details below). For papers written in TeX or LaTeX without Springer macros, the source files can in many cases be used, but Springer will decide on a case-by-case basis whether it is more economical to work from the author¡¯s files or to typeset. You may obtain the Springer macropackages svcalcolo (svcalcolo.cls and svcalcolo.clo) from: ftp.springer.de/pub/tex/latex/svjour/calcolo
For support, or any other information concerning the journal, please contact: barbara.amorese@springer.com
You may also obtain diskettes writing to Springer-Verlag Italia S.r.l. Barbara Amorese Via Decembrio 28 20137 Milano Italy e-mail: barbara.amorese@springer.com
Submitting Manuscripts For the review process manuscript should preferably be submitted in the original file format and in PDF format to the Managing Editor c/o the Editorial Assistant or the Assistant Editor. If this is not possible, please submit three printouts of your manuscript to the editors. The form and content of the manuscript should be carefully checked to exclude the need for corrections at the proof stage. Manuscripts must be typed on one side of the paper only with wide margins. References, tables and figure legends should be typed on different sheets. Footnotes to the text should be avoided.
Preparation of Manuscripts The first manuscript page should provide the title, names of all authors, affiliations, any footnotes to the title, address to which proofs are to be sent. To facilitate communication between authors, editors and publishers, the author should furnish a fax number and/or e-mail address on the title page of the manuscript.
Papers should be written only in English.
References The list of references at the end of the paper should always be in alphabetical order and include the names and initials of all authors and the year of publication (see examples below). Whenever possible, please update all references to papers accepted for publication, preprints or technical reports, giving the exact name of the journal, as well as the volume, first and last page numbers and year, if the article has already been published or accepted for publication. When styling references, the following examples should be observed:
Journal article:
Citations Citations in the text should be either by numbers in square brackets, e.g.[1], referring to an alphabetically ordered and numbered list, or by the author¡¯s initials in square brackets, e.g. [F-M], or by the author and year in parentheses, e.g. Freed and Melrose (1992).Any of these styles is acceptable if used consistently throughout the paper. In the third system, if a work with more than two authors is cited, only the first author¡¯s name plus ¡°et al.¡± need be given and if there is more than one reference by the same author or team of authors in the same year, then a,b,c should be added after the year both in the text and in the list of reference.
Figures Figures are to be numbered consecutively and should be submitted separately (not pasted in the manuscript). The desired position of figures should be indicated in the margin of the respective manuscript pages. For line drawings, good-quality glossy prints in the desired final size are preferred. All lines should be of uniform thickness (minimum 0.5 points). Computer printouts are accepted, provided that they are legible and reproducible. Figuresn in electronic form should be saved individually in EPS format and submitted together with the LaTeX- file.
Tables Tables are to be numbered separately from the illustrations. Each table should have a short title.
Formulas Formulas should be numbered consecutively on the right-hand side of the page.
Copyright Transfer Statement Please fill out of the copyright transfer statement overleaf and enclose it with your manuscript. After you have carried out all final revisions and have been notified of acceptance, please send the electronic version of your paper via e-mail to: bonadei@springer.it
or on diskette to: Springer- Verlag Italia Via Decembrio 28 20137 Milano Italy
Make sure that the final printed version of your paper is identical in content to the electronic version sent.
Page Proof One set of page proof is sent to the author.
Normally only typesetting errors should be corrected in the page proofs. A charge is made for extensive changes introduced after the paper has been typeset. No later corrections will be accepted electronically.
Offprints Twenty-five (25) offprints of each paper will be supplied free of charge. Additional offprints can be ordered at cost price by returning the order form with the corrected proofs. You are then entitled to receive a pdf file of your article for your own personal use.
