Author Guidelines
In the Bangladesh Journal of Botany original research papers related to Plant Sciences are published from anywhere in the world.
Each volume of the journal comprises two issues published in June and December every year.
The manuscript should be typewritten in double space with wide margins (left and top 3.81 cm, right and bottom 2.54 cm) on 29.21 × 21.59 cm good quality bond or A4 size (21.0 x 29.7 cm) offset paper and should not exceed ten pages. It is expected that the author(s) will compose their articles as to the style and format of the Journal. If the article is accepted, the author will have to provide the text in a CD and a hard copy. Preparation of the manuscript should conform to the style and format in the latest issue of the journal.
Each paper should be submitted in duplicate to the Chief Editor, Bangladesh Journal of Botany, C/o. Department of Botany, University of Dhaka, Dhaka 1000, Bangladesh.
The following instructions should be followed during preparation of the manuscript: On the first page of the manuscript, only the Title of the paper and the name(s) of the author(s) with the address should be typed. On the second page the Title of the paper, Key words, Abstract and Introduction should be given. On the following pages Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Acknowledgement (if any) and References should be typed. The E-mail address of the corresponding author must be mentioned.
Title: It should be brief and very specific.
Abstract: Each full paper should have an abstract containing the gist of the results obtained and should not exceed 150 words.
Text: The text of the article should be clear and precise. It should include Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion. The Results and Discussion should not be separated but each result in the section should be followed by a discussion.
Tables, Graphs and Figures: Number of tables, graphs and figures should be minimum. The same data should not be used in both tables and graphs. Tables should be typed on separate pages. Figures and graphs should be drawn with Indian ink on tracing paper and should be properly labelled with bold, solid lines so that these can be reduced up to half or even less of their original size.
The photographs should be submitted on glossy paper or JPEG format. Black and white photographs are accepted. But if colour photographs are submitted for colour in the journal then the author(s) will have to bear the expenses for the colour re-production.
References: In the text a reference should be given within brackets without a comma between the name of the author and the year, two or more references, however, should be separated by a comma. References at the end of the text should be arranged alphabetically beginning with the author(s) and followed by the year of the publication, title of the paper, abbreviated name of the journal, volume, colon (:) and page numbers. In case of books the name(s) of publisher(s) should be given. Please follow strictly the styles of the references given below:

Abbreviations: Abbreviations should be the same as those used by the American Journal of Botany.
Short communications: Short research information should not exceed three printed pages (900 words) including Graphs, Tables and Figures. The presentation should be continuous and paragraphed, i.e. without headings like Introduction, Materials and Methods, etc. A short communication paper should have an Abstract containing the gist of the paper and should not exceed 60 words.
Declaration: All authors must be regular members of the Society at the time of submitting their papers, and are requested to sign a declaration certifying that the work was carried out by them and the contents of the paper were neither published before nor submitted for publication in any other journal, and that they have submitted their articles for consideration by the Editorial Committee of the Bangladesh Journal of Botany.
Contributors are given 25 copies of reprints free. For additional reprints the author(s) will be billed at cost price and for this they must inform the Chief Editor in writing, the desire to have extra reprints after the papers are accepted for publication.
The Society will bear the cost of up to ten full typewritten manuscripts including a full page plates.
The author(s) will have to pay the cost of additional pages exceeding six printed pages in the journal.
The author(s), if desires for multicolour printing will have to pay the extra cost.
The membership subscription (for one year) of a foreign author is US $ 25.00.
Life membership subscription of a foreign author is US$ 250.00.
Payment should be made as demand draft payable to Bangladesh Botanical Society.
