About the journal

Amyloid: the Journal of Protein Folding Disorders is dedicated to the study of all aspects of the protein groups and associated disorders that are classified as the amyloidoses as well as other disorders associated with abnormal protein folding. The Journal has a major focus on etiology, pathogenesis, histopathology, chemical structure and the nature of fibrillogenesis and also publishes papers on the genetic aspects (both basic and clinical) of many of these disorders.

Amyloid is recognised as one of the leaders in the publication of the classification of the amyloid proteins and the associated disorders as well as clinical studies of all aspects of the amyloid related neurodegenerative diseases and major clinical studies on the inherited amyloidosis , especially those related to transthyretin. The Journal also publishes Book Reviews, Meeting Reports, Editorials, Thesis Abstracts, Review Articles and Symposia in the various areas listed above.

It has been recommended to basic scientists, students of the neurodegenerative disorders (neurologists), histopathologists, geneticists and to a broad spectrum of clinicians, whose specialties are impacted by various amyloid diseases.

Amyloid: the Journal of Protein Folding Disorders is the official journal of the International Society of Amyloidosis.

Manuscripts should be submitted for publication to the journal's ScholarOne site:  http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/damy

Referees will not be identified to authors but their comments may be conveyed by the Editor-in-Chief, at his discretion.

Copyright: It is a condition of the publication that authors vest or license copyright in their articles. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and the journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors may, of course, use the material elsewhere after publication providing that prior permission is obtained from Informa Healthcare. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.

Conflict of interest: Disclosure of any possible conflict of interest is essential. For example, if an author is employed by, a Director of, or a Consultant to, a biotech company or pharmaceutical firm which has any potential interest in the work, it must be stated. For example, ‘‘Dr. Jane Doe is a Consultant to Worldwide Biotechnology, Inc.’’

Authority and responsibility: The intellectual content of the paper is the responsibility of the authors. The Editor and the Publisher accept no responsibility for opinions and statements of authors. While every effort will be made by the Editor and Publisher to avoid inaccurate and misleading data, they accept no liability whatsoever for the consequences of wrong information. The authors agree to keep the Editor and Publisher fully and effectually indemnified against any liability or claim that may arise out of the publication of inaccurate and/or misleading data.

Presentation: Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced on one side of an 8 x 11 inch paper, leaving at least one inch margin at the top and left-hand side of the sheet. Papers should be structured into headed sections as follows: Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments and References. Each section should begin on a new sheet and be identified with the shoulder heading. Other subsection headings within the main headings may be used but should be limited.

The first page should include:

(1) Title of Article: do not use over 12–16 words. Subtitles can be used below the main title.

(2) List authors in order and use superscripts 1,2,3 etc. to designate institutional affiliation.

(3) Institutional affiliation: use only the major affiliation with brief address including city and country.

(4) List Keywords in italics.

(5) List Abbreviations as follows and in italics: FAP = familial amyloid polyneuropathy; AD= Alzheimer’s disease, etc.

(6) Correspondence: name and full address of the author to whom all correspondence should be addressed followed by telephone number, fax number and e-mail address when available.

Abstract: An abstract not exceeding 200 words should state what was done, the main findings, how the work was interpreted, and its significance.

Illustrations: Glossy prints of photographs are necessary. The use of symbols in illustrations should be consistent with usage within the paper. All illustrations should be identified on the back by the name of the principal author and the figure number. If the orientation of an illustration is not obvious it should be indicated on the back. Legends for illustrations should be collected together and presented on a separate manuscript page. All illustrations should be specifically referred to in the text, e.g. Figure 2.

Graphs: Glossy prints of graphs are needed. All graphs should be clearly labelled and have a separate legend attached. The print should be identified on the back with the name of the first author and graph number. Computer generated graphics will rarely be acceptable for technical reasons. Please attempt to use solely glossy prints!

Table I Symbols to be used for amino acids. (See PDF)

Tables: Tables should be submitted on separate sheets, numbered in Roman numerals, and their position indicated in the text (e.g., Table I). Each table should have a short, self-explanatory title. Vertical rules should not be used to separate columns. Units should appear in parentheses in the column heading but not in the body of the table. Any explanatory notes should be given as a footnote at the bottom of the table using the following symbols: *, **, {, {.

Color plates: There will be a color plate charge of £500 for the first page, and £250 for any subsequent page within that article. There is no page charge or black and white plate charge.

Single quotation marks should be used and words to be italicized should be underlined. The Editor reserves the right to alter manuscripts whenever necessary to make them conform to the stylistic and bibliographic conventions of the Journal.

Literature cited: References should follow the CBE Citation & Sequence format. Only works actually cited in the text should be included in the references. Indicate in the text with arabic numbers inside square brackets. Spelling in the reference list should follow the original. References should then be listed in numerical order at the end of the article. Examples are provided as follows:
