Instructions to Authors

The Author Gateway is Elsevier's new online tool for authors. It provides an integrated website, allowing authors to view and access the information and tools they need to speed up the publication process, as well as stay informed of new journal content and books from Elsevier.

There are two ways of accessing and using the Author Gateway:

1.access to general author information and content (e.g. guides for authors, abstracting & indexing listings, online sample copies, tables of contents, and recent abstracts).

2.registered users have access to journal related services (e.g. online submission, paper tracking) and the ability to create their own unique personal homepage.

Finding a journal

Within the Author Gateway, you can find the journal in which you are interested in two ways:

Search for a journal by title, keyword or editor's name.

Browse the list of journals by subject or in alphabetical order.

view submission information from the journal page
Each journal has its own rules and guidelines for preparing papers for submission. For information on how and where to submit your paper, please go to the journal's homepage. From there you will find a guide for authors, artwork guidelines, and additional author information

Enter our reference no. and author's name

Each accepted paper that arrives at Elsevier is registered in our
tracking system (formerly known as OASIS) and its status is available for
you to view online.

If you are a registered user of the Author Gateway you can track the status of your paper from your homepage as each step in the production process is automatically updated.

tracking alerts

As a registered user you can set up e-mail alerts that automatically update you on the status of your paper as it moves through the production process.

You can set up an alert by adding an accepted paper to your list of papers in your profile.

Create your profile

The Author Gateway lets you create your own unique homepage that you
can update online at any time. Creating your own unique profile gives you access to all of the Author Gateway's features and ensures you benefit from the convenience and speed of having all the information and links you need bookmarked on one page.

Creation of your profile is a simple business - click Create a Profile on the Author Gateway homepage.

Sharing a Passion for Science:

In the world of scientific research the Editor's function is of great importance to the publishing process. Editors of peer-reviewed journals play a major role as coordinator of the review process that not only improves the quality of an author's paper, but also contributes to advances in science and research.

It is imperative that Editors have access to information which enables them to stay abreast of the latest developments and initiatives within both the scholarly publishing community and Elsevier. These pages provide Elsevier Editors with links to relevant and timely sources of news and information.

The Descartes prize of one million Euro has been partly awarded to the editor of New Astronomy, Professor Ed van den Heuvel, for leading a research team investigating gamma ray bursts (GRBs). The prize is shared with a Danish group researching Multiple Sclerosis. The project, solving the gamma ray burst riddle (the universe’s biggest explosions), addresses one of the greatest mysteries in modern astronomy: a GRB is the explosion of a dying heavy star that subsequently becomes a fast rotating black hole. The prize was launched in 2000 as one of the European Unions so-called Fifth Framework Programme initiatives. It aims to promote scientific and technological excellence, and to encourage the best research teams to work together across Europe.
