Founded in 1970, the SAWMA is an independent, non-profit body dedicated to the conservation and wise management of the wildlife resources of southern Africa.
Aims & Scope of the African Journal of Wildlife Research: The African Journal of Wildlife Research is an ISI ranked, leading peer reviewed scientific publication in wildlife research in Africa, Arabia and Madagascar, with a broad base covering scientific, applied, managerial, methodological and sociological issues related to wildlife research.
The journal publishes original full-length scientific papers, short communications, book reviews as well as reviews on science-based research invited by the editor-in-chief.
This research journal and has been published annually since 1971. Until 2014 the journal was known as the South African Journal of Wildlife Research and will be called African Journal of Wildlife Research from 2015. The journal reaches a wide readership, including both local and foreign wildlife managers, academics and wildlife owners, and libraries local and abroad. It is an important reference for anyone interested in the management and sustainable utilisation of natural resources.
Indexing: The African Journal of Wildlife Research is ISI listed. The African Journal of Wildlife Research is currently available online at SA ePublications (http://reference.sabinet.co.za/sa_epublication/wild) and BioOne (http://www.bioone.org/loi/sawr)
Instructions to Authors
Editorial process: All contributions are refereed by expert reviewers to ensure a high standard of published papers. The editorial process adopted by the African Journal of Wildlife Research is for the editor-in-chief to receive manuscripts and then consult with an associate editor about appointing at least two referees. When two referee's reports have been received, these go to the associate editor who makes a decision on acceptance/revision/rejection.
Submission of manuscripts: Manuscripts should be prepared according to the Instructions to Authors. Also consult a recent published volume of the African Journal of Wildlife Research to view the format used by the journal. Page fees charged are $20 (R200 local) per page for SAWMA members and $30 (R300 local) per page for non-SAWMA members.
