About the journal

The Archives of Neurology & Psychiatry began publication in 1919 and, in 1959, became 2 separate journals: Archives of Neurology and Archives of General Psychiatry. In 2013, their names changed to JAMA Neurology and JAMA Psychiatry, respectivelyJAMA Psychiatry is an international peer-reviewed journal published 12 times a year. The online version is published on the first Wednesday of the month, with new online content posted every Wednesday. The editor is interested in publishing high-impact articles that cover the field broadly, from genetic mechanisms to psychotherapeutic intervention trials. The acceptance rate is 13%. The average time from acceptance to publication is 4.8 months. Its 2011 impact factor is 12.01 (the impact factor is a measure of citation rate per article, and is calculated by dividing 1 year's worth of citations to a journal's articles published in the previous 2 years by the number of major articles [eg, research papers, reviews] published by that journal in those 2 years). The editor is Joseph T. Coyle, MD, Eben S. Draper Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts.

Mission Statement: JAMA Psychiatry strives to publish original, state-of-the-art studies and commentaries of general interest to clinicians, scholars, and research scientists in psychiatry, mental health, behavioral science, and allied fields. The journal seeks to inform and to educate its readers as well as to stimulate debate and further exploration into the nature, causes, treatment, and public health importance of mental illness.

Access for Developing Countries: The online version of JAMA Psychiatry is made freely available or nearly so to institutions in developing countries through the World Health Organization's HINARI program.
