About the journal
Aims and Scope
Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology (Print ISSN 2078-6891; Online ISSN 2219-679X; J Gastrointest Oncol; JGO), the official journal of Society for Gastrointestinal Oncology (SGO), is an open-access, international peer-reviewed journal. It is published quarterly (Sep. 2010- Dec. 2013), bimonthly (Feb. 2014 -) and openly distributed worldwide.
JGO publishes manuscripts that focus on updated and practical information about diagnosis, prevention and clinical investigations of gastrointestinal cancer treatment. Specific areas of interest include, but not limited to, multimodality therapy, markers, imaging and tumor biology.
JGO is indexed in PubMed, PubMed Central (PMC), Scopus, Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and received its impact factor of 2.536 for the year 2019.
Information for Authors
JGO is a member of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and follows the ICMJE recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journal and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)'s guidelines.
Manuscripts submitted must be the original work of the author(s) and must not be published previously or under consideration for publication elsewhere.

- External peer review: 1-3 months
- Publication Ahead of Print: within 1 month after being accepted
- Formal publication: within 1-3 months after being accepted. Original Articles are listed as priority.

Gary Yang, MD

Dr. Gary Yang is Professor and Dell E. Webb Chair in Radiation Medicine, Loma Linda University in southern California, where he also serves as Residency Program Director and Director of Education and Development. Loma Linda University is the first hospital-based proton treatment center in the United States, providing patients worldwide with cutting-edge proton therapy treatments and access to the world-class doctors and staff. Dr. Yang received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School and completed his internship at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, followed by residency training at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia and fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. Before joining Loma Linda University, Dr. Yang was Residency Program Director and Medical Director of Radiation Medicine at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York.
Dr. Yang is an internationally recognized expert in GI cancers. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology, Associate Editor for the Journal of Thoracic Disease, and editorial board member of the World Journal of GI Oncology and Thoracic Cancer. He is also a reviewer for over 20 peer-reviewed journals and has authored or co-authored more than 150 journal publications, abstracts and book chapters.
Dr. Yang was invited as moderator/faculty speaker at various scientific and educational sessions of international conferences including International Society of GI Oncology (ISGIO) and American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
