It furthers this aim by publishing original scholarship from around the world. Migration shapes human society and inspires ground-breaking research efforts across many different academic disciplines and policy areas. Migration Studies contributes to the consolidation of this field of scholarship, developing the core concepts that link different disciplinary perspectives on migration. To this end, the journal welcomes full-length articles, research notes, and reviews of books, films and other media from those working across the social sciences in all parts of the world. Priority is given to methodological, comparative and theoretical advances. The journal also publishes occasional special issues. SUBMISSIONS All material to be considered for publication in Migration Studies should be submitted online using the journal’s online submissions system at:http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/migration . Once you have prepared your manuscript according to the information below, instructions on how to submit your manuscript online can be found by clicking here . Authors are encouraged to submit their manuscript using our manuscript template in Word format, available here . Please note, the template includes a title page, which must be uploaded separately, in order to keep the manuscript anonymous. Format and style Articles should ideally range from 7000 to 9000 words and should be prefaced by an abstract of less than 250 words. Migration Studies welcomes submissions of Articles and Book Reviews, though please follow the separate guidelines below regarding Book Reviews. Please prepare your typescript text using a word-processing package (save in .doc or .rtf format). Please also include the files for any other supplementary material to be submitted with your manuscript (this material is published online only). It is recommended that authors spell-check all files before submission. Journal Copyediting Style Guide All submitting authors should follow the Oxford style, and a mini style checklist is available here . Other helpful hints are: (i) use the TAB key once for paragraph indents; (ii) where possible use Times New Roman for the text font and Symbol for any Greek and special characters; (iii) use the word processing formatting features to indicate Bold , Italic , Greek, Maths, Superscript and Subscript characters; (iv) please avoid using underline: for emphasis use bold; (v) clearly identify unusual symbols and Greek letters; (vi) where there might be confusion, differentiate between the letter O and zero, and the letters I and l and the number 1. Title page Papers must be submitted with a separate title page containing the information specified below. This information should not appear on the manuscript itself, which should be anonymised for the purposes of peer review. Article type. Manuscript title. Names and affiliations of all contributing authors. It is important that authors ensure the following: (i) all names have the correct spelling and are in the correct order (first name, then family name); (ii) initials are correct. Occasionally, the distinction between surnames and forenames can be ambiguous, and this is to ensure that the authors’ full surnames and forenames are tagged correctly, for accurate indexing online. Full address for correspondence, including telephone and fax number and email address. Abstract: please provide a short summary of up to 250 words. The summary should not contain any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references. Key words: please provide a minimum of 4 and up to 6 key words in alphabetical order, suitable for indexing. Ideally these words will not have appeared in the title. Funding Statement (see notes below). Acknowledgements. Section Headings Use numbered headings, with up to three levels, and in the following formats:  1. Introduction  1.1 The Collection as we see it  1.1.1 And then there were none. The reader will then notice that… Quotations Short quotations should be incorporated into the text and are not indented. A single inverted comma should be used at the beginning and end of the quote. Quotations over 30 words in length should be indented from both margins, and quotation marks for such quotes are not required. Punctuation should be included within the quotation marks if it forms part of the quote, or remain outside if not part of the quote. References Avoid over-referencing. Migration Studies aims to be a publication accessible to a range of audiences, both academic and practitioner. Use the author-date system for in-text citations (eg: Ngugi 2007: 28-32), and list references alphabetically at the end of the article in a bibliography (see below). All references should be cited in the text using the author-date system. Authors are responsible for checking the accuracy of all references, and are asked to pay particular attention to the accuracy and correct presentation of references. Crossref Funding Data Registry Details of all funding sources for the work in question should be given in a separate section entitled 'Funding'. This should appear before the 'Acknowledgements' section.  The following rules should be followed: The sentence should begin: ‘This work was supported by …’. The full official funding agency name should be given, i.e. ‘the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health’ or simply 'National Institutes of Health' not ‘NCI' (one of the 27 subinstitutions) or 'NCI at NIH’ ( full RIN-approved list of UK funding agencies ). Grant numbers should be complete and accurate, provided in brackets and multiple grant numbers should be separated by a comma as follows: ‘[grant numbers ABX CDXXXXXX, EFX GHXXXXXX]’. Agencies should be separated by a semi-colon (plus ‘and’ before the last funding agency). Where individuals need to be specified for certain sources of funding the following text should be added after the relevant agency or grant number 'to [author initials]'. An example is given here: ‘This work was supported by the National Institutes of Health [AA123456 to C.S., BB765432 to M.H.]; and the Alcohol & Education Research Council [hfygr667789]. Return to top of page. INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL FOR A SPECIAL ISSUE Migration Studies is currently not inviting any Special Issue proposals, due to a high level of initial submissions. We will in future send out a call for Special Issue proposals on a yearly basis. FIGURES Figures should be saved in separate files without their captions. Files should be named according to DOS conventions, e.g. 'figure1.tif'.  Each figure and table should be numbered and mentioned in the text. Figures and tables should be placed at the end of the manuscript following the Reference section. Each figure and table should be accompanied by an explanatory legend. The figure legends should be grouped and placed on a separate page. Figures that are to be published in black-and-white should not be submitted in colour.  In tables, footnotes are preferable to long explanatory material in either the heading or body of the table. Such explanatory footnotes, identified by superscript letters, should be placed immediately below the table. Return to top of page. BOOK REVIEWS Publishers submitting books for review should send them to the Associate Editor for Reviews by email or to the postal address below. Please note that the journal does not accept unsolicited book reviews. Invited reviews should be submitted to the journal using the online submission system at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/migration .  Reviewers should follow the format and style indicated above, and include full publishing details: author or editor, title, publisher, location, year, number of pages, and ISBN number. Reviews of single books should not exceed 1,000 words. The journal prioritizes review essays of 2-5 books sharing a common theme. In this case, the length of the review will be negotiated with the Editor based on the selection of books under review. The journal also considers reviews of documentary films and other media. PUBLICATION ETHICS Authors should observe high standards with respect to publication ethics as set out by the Commission on Publication Ethics (COPE) .
