About the journal

Knowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems (KMAE-Bulletin Français de la Pêche et de la Pisciculture since 1928) serves as a foundation for scientific advice across the broad spectrum of management and conservation issues related to freshwater ecosystems.
The journal publishes articles, short communications, reviews, comments and replies that contribute to a scientific understanding of freshwater ecosystems and the impact of human activities upon these systems. Its scope includes economic, social, and public administration studies, in so far as they are directly concerned with the management of freshwater ecosystems (e.g. European Water Framework Directive, USA Clean Water Act, Canadian Water Quality Guidelines, …) and prove of general interest to freshwater specialists. Papers on insular freshwater ecosystems and on transitional waters or estuaries are welcome.
Subjects covered:
Structure and dynamics of aquatic ecosystems (hydrobiology, aquatic ecology, trophic food webs, hydromorphology, river continuity, migrations and invasions);
impacts and adaptations to global changes (Climate Change effects and biodiversity loss, conflicts between water uses, species repartition area evolution, dynamics of ecosystems, biological indicators for river monitoring, water quality and ecosystems damages, ecotoxicological impacts, …);
socio-economical analysis of environmental benefits and impacts (economical analysis of natural resources and ecological services, sociology, stakeholders, governance);
bioconservation, ecosystems restoration and ecological engineering, fisheries management, and other related management topics, all constitute the key elements of eligible papers.
Special attention will be paid to ecological modelling, data analysis and simulation, as well as papers dealing with new methods or technologies used in aquatic ecosystems studies. Integrated studies are welcome when they bridge the gaps between “traditional” disciplines.
The examination of all manuscripts by the peers committee is rigorous and the answers are sent to the authors in the shortest possible time. As soon as they are accepted and formatted, the papers are published on line.
