About the Journal of Photonics for Energy
The Journal of Photonics for Energy (JPE) is an e-journal that covers fundamental and applied research areas focused on the applications of photonics for renewable energy harvesting, conversion, storage, distribution, monitoring, consumption, and efficient usage. Contributions ranging from materials and concepts to devices and applications are within the scope of the journal.
The journal publishes regular research papers, as well as special sections in key areas of technology. See the Editorial Schedule for a list of forthcoming special section topics and submission dates.
Why publish in this journal?
Launched in 2011, JPE offers a destination for cutting-edge research on the use of photonics in energy applications. JPE is published online as part of the SPIE Digital Library, accessible by researchers at many of the world's leading universities, laboratories, and corporations as well as thousands of individual subscribers.
Author benefits:
- Rapid publication of articles
- Professional copyediting and typesetting
- Free online color figures
- Multimedia
- 5 free downloads for authors from the SPIE Digital Library
- Open access publication at a low cost through payment of voluntary page charges
Submit a manuscript
Journal of Photonics for Energy uses an online submission system.
Authors should read and follow the instructions on how to prepare and format a manuscript prior to submission.
Authors should also read the journal policies prior to submission to ensure their manuscript meets the journal requirements. This page will provides information about submitting a proceedings manuscript to the journal.
All authors are required to include a cover letter with their submission explaining the significance and novelty of the work, the problem that is being addressed, and why the manuscript belongs in this journal. This cover letter sample (.doc) can be used as a template.
Claims of "new" or "novel" work or of being the "first" to report on a topic should be avoided unless they can be fully substantiated.
JPE typically allows only one round of major revision. Authors should carefully address all reviewer comments when submitting a revised manuscript.
Types of Manuscripts
Letter: A short technical communication of significant interest intended for rapid publication in the JPE Letters section of the journal. The manuscript length may not exceed six typeset pages. Further details below.
JPE Letters: The purpose of this section of the Journal of Photonics for Energy is to provide rapid publication of short technical communications of significant interest on topics that fall within the scope of JPE. Submissions should be prepared in the same manner as a regular paper, except that there are no author biographies. The manuscript may not exceed six typeset pages. A brief cover letter setting forth the significance of the paper must accompany the manuscript. Regular page charges apply to letters.
Regular Paper: A full-length manuscript presenting original work intended as a regular contribution to the journal.
Special Section Paper: A full-length manuscript presenting original work intended for submission to a special topical section organized by a guest editor.
Review Paper: An article reviewing a particular topic or field. Review papers are typically invited papers written by a highly regarded expert in the field. Review articles summarize progress made in a particular research or development area during a specified period and summarize the current state of the art. Short "mini-review" articles highlighting recent advances in the last 2-3 years are also accepted. Mini-reviews, which are briefer and more focused than full review articles, cover new and exciting areas of photonics technology applied to solving energy-related problems and needs.
