Instructions to Authors
Online Submission and Peer Review
Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy publishes papers on all aspects of environmental concerns, sustainability and sustainable energy, with emphasis on system design and engineering solutions. Journal content is directed toward Chemical Engineers with environmental management, regulatory response, and/or instructional responsibilities. Reflecting professional concerns, the journal emphasizes waste minimization, sustainability, issues of sustainable energy, pollution prevention, "green" design and operation, and integrated management of environmental and health and safety issues. Manuscripts presenting new development in air, soil and water pollution reduction, solid and hazardous waste management and resource conservation (including recycle and reuse), fate-and-effect interactions, life cycle effects, global impacts, energy generation and efficiency, and sustainable energy are encouraged. Papers based on work presented at AIChE meetings are particularly welcomed.
Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy articles are typically no longer than 16 manuscript pages (double-spaced), excluding tables and figures. All submissions are first reviewed by the Editor(s) to ensure compliance with journal standards, content expectations, and appropriate English grammar. Those papers being considered for acceptance go on to be reviewed by one or more members of the periodical's Editorial Advisory Board and/or other peer reviewers. The review process is completed as rapidly as possible, allowing submissions to be published online within six months of submission, in some cases. All authors should read the AIChE Code of Ethics (http://www.aiche.org/about/ethicscode.htm; revised January 17, 2003.)
In order to speed the editorial evaluation process and reduce times from submission to publication, Environmental Progress is now pleased to offer web-based submission and peer review. To submit your manuscript online, please:
i. Point your browser to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ep . ii. While ScholarOne Manuscripts (formerly known as Manuscript Central) will accept a single file upload from the author, which is suitable for review purposes, final submission must include original figures and tables submitted as separate files. Please note: This journal does not accept Microsoft WORD 2007 documents at this time. Please use WORD's "Save As" option to save your document as an older (.doc) file type. Figures should be saved as .tif or .eps. Other file types are not suitable for production purposes. iii. If you have not already done so, create an account for yourself in the system at the submission site, http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ep by clicking on the "Create an Account" button. To monitor the progress of your manuscript throughout the review process, just login periodically and check your AuthorCenter. iv. Online help is available to you at all times during the process. You are also able to exit/re-enter at any stage before finally "submitting" your work. All submissions are kept strictly confidential. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us at support@scholarone.com. v. Authors are encouraged to include the name of up to three qualified reviewers that may be considered by the editor for review of the manuscript.
Manuscript Preparation
Title Page. This must contain the complete title of the manuscript, names and affiliations of all authors, institution at which the work was performed, name, address and telephone, fax numbers, and email address of author responsible for correspondence.
Abstract. Each paper must include an abstract of 100-200 words, offering a brief account of the contents, conclusions, and relevance of the findings of the paper. The abstract should not be identical to the introductory paragraphs of the paper.
Key words. Provide 3-5 key words not used in the title that will adequately index the subject matter of the article.
Format. Papers need not follow any specific format, but they should be written in a manner designed to best illustrate the material being presented. Use of headings and subheadings normally enhances a paper. A short review of the literature, with appropriate references, should also be included. Remember to define all acronyms and any terms that might not be commonly known outside of your area of technical specialization. A nomenclature section may be helpful.
Length. Submitted manuscripts should not exceed 16 double-spaced pages. While longer manuscripts may be considered, an explanation of the need for the increased length should be provided in the accompanying submittal letter.
Literature Citation. Any literature directly referenced within the text of the paper or in any tables or figures must be notated by numbers in brackets and a full citation provided. References must be listed in the order in which they are cited in the article. All references must be complete and accurate. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:
Journal Article Eiden-Assmann, S., Widoniak, J., Maret, G. (2004). Synthesis and characterization of porous and nonporous monodisperse colloidal TiO2 particles. Chem. Mater., 16, 6-11.
Book Levenspiel, O. (1998). Chemical reaction engineering, 3rd edition. New York, NY: John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
Article or Chapter in an Edited Book Rall, T.W., Schleifer, L.S. 1985. Drugs effective in the therapy of the epilepsies. In A.G. Gilman, L.S. Goodman, T.W. Rall, F. Murad, (Eds.), The pharmacological basis of therapeutics, 7th ed., (pp.446-472). New York: Macmillan Publishing Co.
Color Figure Preparation
For best reproduction, bright, clear colors should be used. Dark colors against a dark background do not reproduce well; please place your color images against a white background wherever possible.
All print reproduction requires files for full color images to be in a CMYK color space (not RGB). If possible, ICC or ColorSync profiles of your out put device should accompany all digital image submissions.
Color Reproduction Charges
Authors will be asked to pay a color reproduction charge for the publication of color figures appearing in the print journal. The charge for color publication is $850 for the first figure on a page and $150 for each additional figure on that page. All color figures will be published in color online at no charge to authors.
Additional Reprint Purchases
Should you wish to purchase additional copies of your article, please follow the instructions provided at: https://caesar.sheridan.com/reprints/redir.php?pub=10089&acro=EP
Electronic Proofing
In order to expedite the publication and online posting of articles in WileyInterScience, Environmental Progress offers electronic proofing.Corresponding authors with e-mail addresses will be sent page proofs(and paper work, such as reprint order forms) in pdf format via e-mail.Please follow the instructions in the e-mail; contact names and numbers are given for questions, problems, or if an author wishes to receive a paper proof. A fax cover form with the Production Editor's information is also provided for authors to fax their corrections. Please notify us of your preferred proof delivery method when submitting your final manuscript to the Editorial Office. Indicate in your cover letter your page proof choice: ELECTRONIC (.pdf) orTRADITIONAL (paper).
Copyright and Permissions
Authors will need to complete and return a Copyright Transfer Agreement when submitting their manuscript. A copy of the Copyright Agreement will appear in most issues of the journal. No paper can be published without a signed copy of this form. All materials within the paper, including tables and figures, should be the original, unpublished work of the authors. If a paper uses figures or other materials from published sources, it is the responsibility of the author(s) to get written permission to use it from the person or publisher who holds the copyright. The permission statement must be submitted with the manuscript to the Editorial Office. E-mail is sufficient as long as it contains the name and contact information for the person who authorized its use.
OnlineOpen
OnlineOpen is available to authors of primary research articles who wish to make their article available to non-subscribers on publication, or whose funding agency requires grantees to archive the final version of their article. With OnlineOpen, the author, the author's funding agency, or the author's institution pays a fee to ensure that the article is made available to non-subscribers upon publication via Wiley InterScience, as well as deposited in the funding agency's preferred archive. For the full list of terms and conditions, see http://wileyonlinelibrary.com/onlineopen#OnlineOpen_Terms.
Any authors wishing to send their paper OnlineOpen will be required to complete the payment form available from our website at:
https://wileyonlinelibrary.com/onlineopen
Prior to acceptance there is no requirement to inform an Editorial Office that you intend to publish your paper OnlineOpen if you do not wish to. All OnlineOpen articles are treated in the same way as any other article. They go through the journal's standard peer-review process and will be accepted or rejected based on their own merit.
