Editors' Note
We are pleased to announce our new title for 2009: Journal of Integrative Environmental Sciences . We hope that by emphasising 'integrative' we will strengthen our now well-established aims and scope, by further highlighting that the journal goes beyond looking at environmental issues from a pure science perspective. Journal of Integrative Environmental Sciences is interdisciplinary, relevant and comprehensive.

It brings together perspectives from a wide range of disciplines and methodologies in both the social and natural sciences in the effort to develop integrative knowledge about the processes responsible for environmental change. The subject matter, authorship and readership are international in scope and cover issues from across a range of scales, from the global to the local. Key themes include: interdisciplinary assessment methodologies; governance and regulation; technology and innovation; science, society and policy; knowledge, perceptions and discourse. The journal publishes work on a wide range of issues, including:
- energy

Suitability for the journal
Journal of Integrative Environmental Sciences publishes work across the full range of social and natural sciences, with an emphasis on interdisciplinarity, policy/user relevance and sustainable development. To assess the suitability of your manuscript, consider the following criteria:
- Is it interdisciplinary?
- Is it relevant to policy or other end users of research?
- Does it contribute to improving our understanding of sustainable development?
The answer to at least one of these questions should be 'yes'. If you are in doubt about the suitability of your paper, you may contact the editorial team for an opinion.
Journal of Integrative Environmental Sciences publish five categories of paper. It is essential that you consider carefully which category your manuscript belongs to. This will determine the criteria by which it will be judged during the review process. Please clearly indicate the category of your manuscript in a covering letter/email.
Research article Reports on original research that has resulted in new empirical data and/or fresh theoretical development. It may also contribute to policy development. Max. 8000 words.
Research note A shorter piece of work that reports on original research. Max. 4000 words. Research notes provide the opportunity to publish findings that may be at a more preliminary stage, but are nevertheless worthy of publication.
Review article A scholarly overview of previously published research on a particular issue. Max. 8000 words. A review should portray the 'state of the art' of scientific understanding within the chosen field and draw pertinent conclusions about, for example, the significance of recent findings, knowledge limitations, and future research agendas.
Environmental essay A short piece of work that develops a coherent and challenging line of argument that may be more speculative and less evidence based than an article. Max. 4000 words.
Book Review Book reviews are normally by invitation but you are welcome to contact the book review editor with suggestions ( adrian.martin@uea.ac.uk ).
