About the journal

As the flagship publication for the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness , the Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness (JREE) publishes original articles from a multidisciplinary community of researchers who are committed to applying principles of scientific inquiry to the study of educational problems. Articles published in JREE should advance our knowledge of factors important for educational success and/or improve our ability to conduct further disciplined studies of pressing educational problems.
JREE welcomes manuscripts that fit into one of the following categories: 1) interventions and evaluation studies, and 2) methodological studies. The first category includes studies that focus on process and implementation and seek to demonstrate causal claims in educational research. To establish a stronger connection between scientific evidence and educational practice, studies submitted to JREE should focus on pressing problems found in classrooms and schools.
Studies that help advance our understanding and demonstrate effectiveness related to challenges in reading, mathematics education, and science education are especially welcome as are studies related to cognitive functions, social processes, organizational factors, and cultural features that mediate and/or moderate critical educational outcomes. On occasion, invited responses to JREE articles and rejoinders to those responses will be included in an issue.
Peer Review Policy : All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous refereeing by at least two anonymous referees.

Instructions to Authors This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.
Please note that The Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness uses CrossCheck™ software to screen papers for unoriginal material. By submitting your paper to The Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness you are agreeing to any necessary originality checks your paper may have to undergo during the peer review and production processes.
The Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness is the flagship publication of the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness (SREE) and publishes original articles from the multidisciplinary community of researchers who are committed to applying principles of scientific inquiry to the study of educational problems.
Articles published in JREE should advance our knowledge of factors important for educational success and/or improve our ability to conduct further disciplined studies of pressing educational problems. JREE welcomes manuscripts that fit into one of the following categories: 1) intervention, evaluation, and policy studies, and 2) methodological studies. The first category includes studies that focus on process and implementation and seek to demonstrate causal claims in educational research. The second category includes studies that advance our understanding of theoretical and technical features of measurement and research design and describe advances in data analysis and data modeling.
Manuscript Submission.
Manuscripts should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect. Authors should submit one electronic copy via the Manuscript Submission Portal at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/uree, and one paper copy of the manuscript should be mailed to Dr. Carol McDonald Connor (should it pertain to intervention, evaluation, and policy studies) at the Learning Sciences Institute at Arizona State University, P.O. Box 872111, Tempe, AZ, 85287-2111 or Dr. Spyros Konstantopoulos (should it relate to methodological studies) at 450 Erickson Hall, 620 Farm Lane, College of Education, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824.
To facilitate anonymous review, only the article title should appear on the first page of the manuscript, and every effort should be made to see that the text of the manuscript contains no identifying information. An attached cover page must contain the title; authorship; author’s affiliations; any statements of credit or research support; and contact information (mailing address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address) for each author listed. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. This applies to direct reproduction as well as "derivative reproduction" (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
SREE requires authors to disclose any possible conflict of interest in the conduct and reporting of research (e.g. financial interests in a test procedure or curriculum product). For further detail, see the journal section of the website for the Society for Research in Educational Effectiveness ( http://www.sree.org/ ).
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively throughout the paper and should not exceed 45 pages including references, tables, and figures. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more than 180 words. The abstract should be typed on a separate page, and abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text should be avoided.
Illustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- Sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color Reproduction. Color art will be reproduced in color in the online publication at no additional cost to the author. Color illustrations will also be considered for print publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Please note that color reprints can only be ordered if print reproduction costs are paid. Print Rates: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi will not be considered for print.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.
