Aims and scope

The International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems aims at covering state-of-the-art research and development in all fields where computational intelligence is applied. The journal publishes original papers on foundations and new developments of computational intelligence with an emphasis on applications, including current and potential applications of CI methods and techniques.

The journals seeks original contributions in the area of applied computational intelligence research in general, with a focus on applications using new and emerging technologies. Applications may range from information technology and energy supply to environmental, societal and  security related topics.

Papers submitted to International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems will all be double peer reviewed. Also, the journal applies the principle of ‘rolling publication’, so as soon as a paper has been accepted it will be published on-line.

Topics to be considered include, but are not limited to:

Autonomous reasoning · Bio-informatics · Cloud computing · Data science · Decision support systems · E-science and e-commence · Intelligent information retrieval ·Human-machine interaction · Image processing ·   Pattern recognition · Prediction systems ·   Power (Nuclear) safety systems · Risk analysis. Robotics · Smart cities · Systems integration · System control · System modeling and Optimization · Warning systems · Web-intelligence.

Publishing information

The ISSN of IJCIS in print is: 1875-6891
The ISSN of IJCIS on-line is: 1875-6883.

Copyright
Please refer to the relevant page on the the T&F website for the copyright policy of IJCIS.

On-line acces
All papers published in IJCIS will be published on-line as soon as they have been accepted and proofread. Subscribers will have immediate access to new papers (and receive a print copy).

Open Access
Articles can also be published as Open Access articles so that they are immediately available for free for any interested reader. For having an article published as an Open Access article, a processing fee of 1000 dollar is requested. Please see the "Open Select" option for further details.

DOI
All articles will be given a digital object identifier (DOI). DOIs are standardised digital identities used across all major scientific publishers and are managed by CrossRef. DOIs guarantee a permanent Web-address of the article, no matter where it is physically stored. So, when referring to an article you can either use the traditional reference information (name of publication, volume, issue, etc.), or use the DOI. Many people now use both notations. For more information on DOIs, see here

Instructions to Authors

Important notes

IJCIS receives many papers and has to be selective in accepting papers. Therefore, please note that any paper submitted to IJCIs has to comply to the following rules:

  1. The paper should be in the aims of scope of IJCIS;
  2. The paper should be written in clear English;
  3. The paper should at least be 8 pages long.

Papers not complying to these rules should not be submitted as they will not be considered for publication.

Papers can only be submitted using our editorial system. Email submissions are not accepted and not replied to. So, please submit your articles to the following address:

  Special Issues

Should you wish to publish a special issue in IJCIS, then please download the SI proposal form and send it to the editors in chief (email addresses are here).

Guide for authors

IJCIS publishes original research papers in the fields of computational intelligence research and applications. IJCIS accepts original research articles and book review articles. Only papers that fall within the aims and scope of IJCIS will be considered for publication. For a more precise description of the aims and scope, please click here.

High quality research papers are considered for publication if they have not been published previously and are not under consideration elsewhere. Authors are reminded that papers are published to be read and should compose their works with as wide audience in mind as is consistent with the maintenance of scientific quality. Please see here for a PDF with the call for papers.

Submitting your paper
All papers have to be submitted to our electronic system at: http://journals.sfu.ca/atlantis/index.php/IJCIS/. If this is the first time, you will have to register first and then submit your paper.

Please specify during your submission to which of the following areas your submission belongs:

  • Data mining and Machine learning

  • Decision Support Systems

  • Industrial Engineering and Risk analysis

  • Information Science

  • Mathematical Foundations of Computational Intelligence

  • Real World Applications

  • System modelling and Optimization

  • Web intelligence and E-services

For each of the above areas an 'area-editor' is responsible for all papers submitted in this area. However, the Editor-in-Chief alway makes the final decision.

IJCIS requires all papers to be prepared as Word or LaTeX-files as this will give the best formatting results. However, for the submission, please use a PDF version of your article.

Author instructions, Templates and Sample files
For the submission of a paper in LaTeX or Word, the author is required to read and use use the IJCIS instruction files, templates and samples which have been prepared by Atlantis Press. For both LaTeX and Word a ZIP file is available. For LaTeX instructions, please click here. For the Word instructions, please click here.

Code of Ethics, malpractice and conduct
The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal or conference proceedings is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, the publisher and the society of society-owned or sponsored journals.

Please see here for the publication ethics and malpractice statement Atlantis Press adheres to (COPE). Please click here for the code of conduct statement we apply (COPE).

Copyright
IJCIS is co-published with Taylor and Francis and we apply the T&F copyright policy regarding the published papers. Once the paper is ready for publication, T&F requires a copyright transfer. A copyright license form will be sent to you when you receive the proofs of your paper that is to be published. Please do not send the filled out license form to us by post, but send it back by email only.

For more information on T&F's copyright policy, please refer to this page.

Editorial policy
After a first check whether the paper is within the IJCIS aims and scope and of reasonable scientific quality, all papers are reviewed by at least one external referee and by one member of the Editorial Board.

Based on their review reports a final assessment will be made by the Editor-in-chief. The Editor-in-chief takes the final decision on the acceptance of a reviewed paper. Three outcomes are possible:

  • Accepted: the paper is accepted for publication, no changes are needed;
  • Revision requested: the authors are requsted to revise their original submission according to the instructions from the editor-in-chief and the referee(s). The revised paper will then be further reviewed by the referee(s) and the editorial board;
  • Rejected: the paper is rejected, the author receives a full report on the reasons why.

Procedure and time line
After submission the corresponding author receives a confirmation of reception. Due to the many papers we receive the review process may currently take some 6 to 10 months, but this depends strongly on the subject and the details of the article. Our main policy is not to compromise on quality, so in some cases the reviewing time can be longer. Once a paper has been  accepted for publication it will be elaborated by our copy-editor, so that it is suitable for on-line publication at the IJCIS website. Before its publication, the galley proofs of the paper will be sent to the corresponding author for proofreading.

Publication policy and Open Access
Papers will be prepared for on-line publication on the IJCIS website as soon as they have been accepted. From then on they will be available in PDF to the IJCIS subscribers from the website of our publishing partner Taylor & Francis (http://www.tandfonline.com/loi/tcis). Authors will receive a copy of the final file as published in IJCIS, incl. IJCIS formatting and page numbers.

It is also possible to publish your paper in Open Access mode. For 2012 and 2013 a special publication fee of 1000 USD will be charged. For more details, please check here.

Further remarks
Authors can recommend appropriate persons as referees for their papers, but this in no way binds the editors to follow their suggestions.

Authors may request to remain anonymous to the referee.

Authors may request a print copy of the volume in which their article was published. Price for this print copy is the same as the subscription price.

The title page of the paper should include an abstract as well as the full postal and E-mail addresses of the authors.

All figures must be suitable for reproduction without being retouched or redrawn.

Authors will have the opportunity to proofread their paper before publication.
