About the journal

Founded in 1982, the Russian Journal of Pacific Geology highlights problems of Earth sciences covering a vast region of the Pacific Ocean, marginal seas, and continental framing. The Asian-Pacific represents a unique junction of oceanic and continental plates, and distinctive mineral resources are: tin, gold, platinum, and oil and gas on the shelf. The Pacific Fire Ring of active volcanoes is the most hazardous part of the planet with high seismic activity and tsunami waves.

The range of topics covered is diverse: paleontology and stratigraphy, geology of ore deposits, seismology and seismotectonics, geophysics and geodynamics, magmatism and metamorphism, geochemistry, petrology and geochronology, mineralogy and petrography, geomorphology and tectonics, geology of the seas and oceans floor, sedimentology, oil and gas geology, and more.

The peer-reviewed journal also publishes critical notes and comments, reviews, chronicles of major events in scientific life, and bibliography.

Instructions to Authors

// Journals // Russian Journal of Pacific Geology Choose the language [ eng | rus ]

Dear author,

In order to simplify the procedure of interaction between an author (coauthors) and the publisher we ask you to send agreements on transfer of copyright (in Russian or in English) simultaneously with the manuscript of the article to the editorial board of the journal. The agreement should be sent in duplicate.

This agreement is a contract of adhesion.

We draw your attention to the fact that the agreement enters into force under the condition of acceptance of an article for publication in English. If for any reason your article is refused by the editorial board of the journal, the agreement automatically loses force. The decision on acceptance of an article for publication is the exclusive right of the editorial board of the journal. Signing of the agreement by an author (coauthors) means that the author (coauthors) has acquainted himself (themselves) and agrees (agree) with the conditions of the agreement.

A copyright transfer agreement form can be downloaded at our site:

Model Author's Agreement Form

The completed and signed agreements may be presented in person or sent to the editorial board of the journal:

  • by post
  • by e-mail (PDF file) or fax; the original must be subsequently mailed by post.

Rules for Authors

The journal publishes results of studying the composition and deep structure of the Earth’s crust and mantle; papers elucidating the geological structure and metallogeny of the Pacific Ocean, marginal seas, and adjacent territories; geological conditions for magmatism and seismicity; problems of plate tectonics; results of neotectonic, geomorphologic, and geodetic studies in the Pacific region; and theoretical, methodical, and philosophical papers on the general problems of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geoecology, and mining.

The journal also publishes critical essays, reviews, chronicles of the most important events in science, and bibliographies.

Papers should be submitted on floppy disks using a standard text editor with indication of the editor type. The size of a paper should not exceed 24 pages, including illustrations, tables, and references. The text of the manuscript verified and signed by all the authors, as well as figures and photographs, should be presented in three copies.

As the publication of the English version imparts an international status to the journal, augmented requirements are imposed upon the quality and layout of manuscripts. The style of the material presentation should be simple, distinct, and clear to allow adequate translation into English.

Papers prepared without observance of the rules are sent back unconsidered.

1. Structure of the paper:

(a) UDK index, title.
(b) Authors’ surnames and initials; full names of institutions and their addresses.
(c) Annotation in Russian and English (200– 400 words), key words (not exceeding 8).
(d) Introduction; description of the investigation methods (if it is not standard), factual materials; investigation results, their discussion; conclusions; references.
(e) Tables, figure captions (on separate sheets).

2. Requirements for the manuscript text.

(a) The text should be typed 1.5-spaced, leaving margins on the left, with numbered pages.
(b) The list of references should be ordered alphabetically: first the Russian authors and then the foreign authors. References to books or articles in journals should appear as follows: for articles in journals, surnames and initials of all authors, the title of the article and journal, year of publication, volume, number, page number(s); for books, full title, publisher, place and year of publication, page numbers. Books and articles should be ordered alphabetically according to the first author; in case of several works of one author, according to the year of publication. In the text, references are given in square brackets with indication of the work number in the list of references.
(c) Indices and powers should be given as subscripts or superscripts to symbols.
(d) Values and units of measurements used in the paper should correspond to standard indications according to the International System of Units (SI system). Use a period not a comma for a decimal digit: 5.25 instead 5,25.

In view of publishing the English version of the journal, the Russian text should be supplemented with a separate sheet of English spellings for all foreign proper names used in the work; English spellings (preferred by the author, when there are variants) of Russian terms; a list of Russian geographical place names in the subjective case from which names of groups, formations, beds, etc., are derived (Olekminskaya Formation– Olekma River, Gutaiskaya Group–Settlement of Gutai).

3. Graphic materials.
Illustrations should be submitted as separate files.

(a) Figures drawn with a computer are submitted in the standard graphic format with extensions: CDR, TIFF, JPG.
When preparing files in the TIFF format, adhere to the following requirements:
  600 dpi (dots per inch) for scanned line drawings;
not less than 200 dpi for scanned halftone figures and photographs.
(b) Photographs should be of good quality.
(c) The paper should contain a sketch map with the study area.
(d) All the figures should be furnished with the linear scale and orientation, and all the maps, with geographical coordinates.
(e) The maximal size of a figure with the caption should be 17.5 × 23.5 cm, map details should allow reduction.
The recommended font in figures is Arial, the font size is not less than 4–5 pt and not exceeding 10 pt.
(f) The reverse side of each illustration should have its number, the author’s name, the paper title, and indication of the top and bottom if needed.
(g) It is imperative that all the figures should be referred to in the text. Indicate sites for figures on manuscript margins.

4. Requirements on tables.

(a) Numeric tables of chemical, mineralogical, and other analyses should be signed by the authors with indication of the analytical procedures.
(b) Table sites in the text should be shown in the manuscript margins.
(c) The size of the tables should not exceed 17.5 × 23.5 cm.

The editorial office work will be more precise and on-line if the manuscripts are prepared according to the rules.

The surname, name and patronymic name, affiliation, postal address, phone number, fax, and email must necessarily be specified in Russian and English.
