About the journal
Nature Chemistry is a monthly journal dedicated to publishing high-quality papers that describe the most significant and cutting-edge research in all areas of chemistry. As well as reflecting the traditional core subjects of analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, the journal also features a broad range of chemical research including, but not limited to, catalysis, computational and theoretical chemistry, environmental chemistry, green chemistry, medicinal chemistry, nuclear chemistry, polymer chemistry, supramolecular chemistry and surface chemistry. Other cross-disciplinary topics such as bioinorganic, bioorganic, organometallic and physical–organic chemistry will also be featured. The submission of manuscripts detailing multidisciplinary research performed at the interface of chemistry and other scientific fields of inquiry such as biology, materials science, nanotechnology and physics is also encouraged, where the central theme of the work — and the major advances that are reported — fall within the bounds of chemistry.
In addition to primary research, Nature Chemistry also publishes review articles, news and views, research highlights about important work reported in other journals, commentaries, book reviews, correspondence, and analysis of the broader chemical picture beyond the laboratory — including issues such as education, funding, policy, intellectual property, and the impact chemistry has on society. In this way, the journal aims to be the voice of the worldwide chemical community.
Nature Chemistry is committed to publishing top-tier original research in all areas of chemistry through a fair and rigorous review process. It offers authors high visibility for their papers, access to a broad readership, high standards of copy editing and production, rapid publication and independence from academic societies and others with vested interests.

Like the other Nature titles, Nature Chemistry has no external editorial board. Instead, all editorial decisions are made by a team of full-time professional editors, who are PhD-level scientists. Information about the scientific background of the editors can be found here.

Relationship to other Nature journals
Nature Chemistry is editorially independent, and its editors make their own decisions, independently of the other Nature journals. It is for authors alone to decide where to submit their manuscripts. Nature will continue to publish the most significant advances in science, including chemistry. Nature Chemistry will publish landmark papers within the field of chemistry alone. Topics covered by other Nature journals (such as materials chemistry, nanotechnology and chemical biology) may feature in Nature Chemistry when the work centres on some new development in chemistry; otherwise these topics will be the remit of the other relevant journals. For papers that could satisfy the scope of more than one Nature journal, the choice of which journal to submit to lies with the authors.
If a paper is rejected from one Nature journal, the authors can use an automated manuscript transfer service to submit the paper to Nature Chemistry via a link sent to them by the editor handling the manuscript. Authors should note that referees' comments (including any confidential comments to the editor) and identities are transferred to the editor of the second journal along with the manuscript. The journal editors will take the previous reviews into account when making their decision, although in some cases the editors may choose to take advice from additional referees. Alternatively, authors may choose to request a fresh review, in which case they should not use the automated transfer link, and the editors will evaluate the paper without reference to the previous review process.
