Aims & scope AIDS Research and Therapy is an open access, peer reviewed journal publishing basic science and clinically important research articles to help abate the spread of AIDS. The journal is edited by Kailash C. Gupta with the assistance of an expert Editorial Board, including Deputy Editors Greg T. Spear (united States), Ramesh Akkina (United States), Jintanat Ananworanich (Thailand) and Gita Ramjee (South Africa). AIDS Research and Therapy aims to publish articles on basic preclinical, clinical, social, epidemiological and behavioral sciences as well as education research articles that help in abating the spread and burden of AIDS. AIDS Research and Therapy publishes articles on novel and developing treatment strategies for AIDS, as well as on the outcomes of established treatment strategies. Original research articles on animal models that form an essential part of the AIDS treatment research are also published. The ultimate goal of the journal's focus is to lead bench research to bedside practice to combat AIDS. AIDS is spreading at alarming rates in several African and Asian countries. Thus, any development that occurs in combating AIDS should be disseminated as rapidly as possible through the world. AIDS Research and Therapy is a multidisciplinary journal that aims to keep scientists and clinicians globally abreast of the latest research on HIV-1 and AIDS. Open access All articles published by AIDS Research and Therapy are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication, without subscription charges or registration barriers. Authors of articles published in AIDS Research and Therapy are the copyright holders of their articles and have granted to any third party, in advance and in perpetuity, the right to use, reproduce or disseminate the article, according to the BioMed Central copyright and license agreement. For authors who are US government employees or are prevented from being copyright holders for similar reasons, BioMed Central can accommodate non-standard copyright lines. Please contact us if further information is needed. Article-processing charges Open access publishing is not without costs. AIDS Research and Therapy therefore levies an article-processing charge of £1190/$1945/€1430 for each article accepted for publication. We routinely waive charges for authors from low-income countries. Generally, if the submitting author's institution is a Member the cost of the article-processing charge is covered by the membership, and no further charge is payable. In the case of authors whose institutions are Supporter Members, however, a discounted article-processing charge is payable by the author. For further details, see our article-processing charge page. A limited number of waivers for article-processing charges are also available at the editors' discretion, and authors wishing to apply for these waivers should contact the editors. Indexing services All articles published in AIDS Research and Therapy are included in PubMed, the most widely used biomedical bibliographic database service, which is run by the US National Library of Medicine. Publication and peer review process Criteria for Publication AIDS Research and Therapy considers the following types of articles: Research - reports of data from original research. Case reports - reports of clinical cases that can be educational, describe a diagnostic or therapeutic dilemma, suggest an association, or present an important adverse reaction. All case report articles should be accompanied by written and signed consent to publish the information from the patients or their guardians. Hypotheses - short articles presenting an untested original hypothesis backed solely by previously published results rather than any new evidence. Methodology articles - present a new experimental method, test or procedure. The method described may either be completely new, or may offer a better version of an existing method. The article must describe a demonstrable advance on what is currently available. Reviews - comprehensive, authoritative descriptions of any subject within the journal's scope. These are usually written by opinion leaders invited by the Editorial Board. Short reports - brief reports of data from original research. Peer review policy All manuscripts submitted to AIDS Research and Therapy will be peer reviewed. Each manuscript will be sent to the appropriate Section Editor who in turn will assign 3 reviewers (other members of the Editorial Board or outside experts) with the stipulation that the review must be submitted within 2 weeks. Once two concordant reviews are received, the Section Editor will make a decision, even if the third review has not been received. In the case of conflicting reviews, the Section Editor will have the prerogative on making a decision. In general, if two of three reviews are favourable, the manuscript will be accepted. However, if two are not favourable it will be declined. Any properly challenged decision will be given due consideration by the Section Editor and the Editor-in-Chief. Supplements AIDS Research and Therapy will consider supplements based on proceedings (full articles or meeting abstracts), reviews or research. All articles submitted for publication in supplements are subject to peer review. Published supplements are fully searchable and freely accessible online and can also be produced in print. All full length articles (proceedings, reviews or research articles) are indexed by PubMed. PubMed displays the title of the supplement only in the case of meeting abstract collections. Articles are published with their final citation immediately upon acceptance in a provisional PDF form. The article will subsequently be published in both fully browsable web form, and as a formatted PDF; the article will then be available through AIDS Research and Therapy, BioMed Central and PubMed Central and will also be included in PubMed.
