About the journal
The Mediterranean Journal of Mathematics (MedJM) is a publication issued by the Department of Mathematics of the University of Bari. The new journal replaces the "Conferenze del Seminario di Matematica dell’Universit?di Bari" which has been in publication from 1954 until 2003.
Mediterranean Journal of Mathematics aims to publish original and high-quality peer-reviewed papers containing significant results across all fields of mathematics. Furthermore it intends to offer mathematicians from the Mediterranean countries a particular opportunity to circulate the results of their researches in a common journal. Through such a new cultural and scientific stimulus the journal aims to contribute to further integration amongst Mediterranean universities, though it is open to contribution from mathematicians across the world.

Instructions to Authors
Authorship
Submission of a manuscript implies
– that the work described has not been published before;
– that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere;
– that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out;
– that, if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to automatically transfer the copyright to the publisher;
– that the manuscript will not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright holder;
– that the manuscript should be written in English.
The Editorial Process
To speed up publication, and to ensure a unified layout throughout the journal, we require the use of LaTeX.
Preparation of Manuscripts
The manuscript must include a title, the author’s name(s), an abstract, the keywords, and the 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification codes. Pictures should not be in color, their resolution should be at least 300 dpi, and all used fonts must be embedded.
At the end of the manuscript all authors should give their complete addresses along with an e-mail, if applicable.
We require the use of LaTeX or AMS-LaTeX in order to simplify the usage of the class file birkmult.cls (see below) required to compile the final version of the papers once that they are accepted for the publication. Indeed, after the acceptance of the paper, the authors must transform their document in the final layout by using the LaTeX class file birkmult.cls which we provide ready for use with the newer LaTeX versions (LaTeX2e).
Please note that we cannot accept electronic files produced on any other typesetting or word processing system.
Class File: To simplify the transformation process between your documents and the final layout, we provide the LaTeX class file birkjour.cls ready for use with the newer LaTeX versions (LaTeX2e). It can be downloaded from the web page http://www.birkhauser.ch/math/downloads as a zip file, birkjour.zip.
The first line in your document should be
\documentclass{birkjour}.
The class file mainly sets the fonts, margins and spacing. It is based on the standard AMSart class. Hence all of the usual LaTeX and AMS-LaTeX commands can be used inside your document.
A small sample file containing a short documentation and being useful as template is also provided in the zip file.
The authors are highly recommended not to modify the class file by introducing personal settings and/or definitions.
Figures and Tables: Figures and tables should be limited to those required for clear communication and are to be referenced in the text. Illustrations and diagrams should be of good quality. As figures may be reduced for printing, the lettering should not be too small. The publisher reserves the right to reduce or enlarge illustrations and diagrams. Figures should be sent as:
– part of the document within a «picture» environment.
– EPS-files (encapsulated PostScript), with no reference to fonts which are not TeX, PostScript Base 35- or MathPifonts. Use the epsf.sty(.tex) to include these files into your document.
– TIFF (uncompressed) files;
– or fair copy on paper, whenever possible scaled to about 200%.
The author should indicate in the margin of the manuscript where figures and tables are to be inserted.
General Remarks: We request that neither overfull nor underfull boxes are contained in the text, that equations do not exceed the indicated text width, and that hyphenations as well as page breaks have been checked.
Submission of Manuscripts
A formatted version of the paper intended for publication (pdf of postscript file) must be sent either via e-mail attachments(s) or by sending disks with regular mail to the Editor-in-Chief:
Professor Francesco Altomare
Mediterranean Journal of Mathematics
Dipartimento di Matematica
Università di Bari
Via E. Orabona, 4
70125 Bari
Italy
E-mail: altomare@dm.uniba.it
Besides, two hardcopies of the manuscript must be sent with regular mail to the Editor-in-Chief
Reprints
30 reprints of each paper will be supplied free of charge. Prices for additional reprints can be obtained through the Publisher.
Whenever an article is written by two authors, each of them will receive 20 reprints free of charge. Whenever an article is written by more than two authors, they will receive 60 reprints free of charge altogether (which then have to be shared among the authors).
Open Choice
In addition to the normal publication process (whereby an article is submitted to the journal and access to that article is granted to customers who have purchased a subscription), Open Choice now provides an alternative publishing option. An Open Choice article receives all benefits of a regular “subscription-based” article, but in addition the full text is made available publicly through the journal’s online platform SpringerLink immediately after publication.
To publish via Open Choice upon acceptance of your article, please complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information; the order form will be sent to you by our production department together with the page proofs of your article. Payment must be received in full before publication or articles will be published as a regular subscription-model article. For further information please visit

Online First
The Online First service lets users access peer reviewed and accepted articles well before print publication. These articles are searchable and citeable by their DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and hence significantly reduce the time it takes for critical discoveries to reach the research community.
