About the journal

The policy of the Geological Quarterly is to publish significant contributions of information and geological insight relevant to an international readership. The journal has been issued since 1957 at the Polish Geological Institute and, at present, is the leading Earth sciences journal in Poland. All aspects of Earth and related sciences, and universal and broad regional rather than locally oriented topics are covered. The journal is intended to be an international forum for the exchange of information and ideas, particularly on important geological topics of Central Europe.

Instructions to Authors

Geological Quarterly publishes (in English) new scientific contributions as well as reviews and methodological papers in the field of geology and related sciences. Also invited are short communications, up to 4 manuscript pages (1200 words), which can undergo quicker reviewing and editorial procedures. Discussions and comments related to the articles published in the journal are welcome. They should be concise (up to 6 manuscript pages) and limited strictly to the subject of the original paper. The editors will send a copy of the discussion to the author of the original paper to allow the preparation of a reply. Geological Quarterly also publishes book reviews not exceeding 3 manuscript pages.
Two paper copies of manuscripts should be submitted to the Editorial Office. The author(s) should clearly state their name(s), addresses, phone, fax and e-mail. Polish authors are requested to provide, with each manuscript submitted, written permission for publication from their parent institution. The manuscript should not exceed 25 standard pages (8000 words) including abstract (up to 200 words), references, key words (4-6), tables and figures. The title should be short (up to 15 words). Paragraphs must be separated by a single blank line, without indentations, right-margin justification and hyphenation. The heading hierarchy, including at most three levels, should be indicated in the margin. Figure captions should be prepared on separate sheets. Use SI units only. One 3.5" diskette or CD-ROM should be attached with the text in MS WORD or ASCII format.
Originals of drawings and photographs should be submitted in a camera-ready format, along with one paper copy and, if available, a graphics editor  (Corel Draw) version on a diskette or CD-ROM. The maximum publication size of illustrations is 175 x 210 mm. Explanations of graphic elements (map patterns, symbols, etc.) should be included on figures, if possible. Where appropriate, all figures (maps, etc.) must have a scale bar. Photographic prints must be on glossy paper, sharp with high contrast. It is possible to publish colour illustrations as well as scanned photographs. All illustrations should bear the name(s) of author(s) and figure number written with a soft pencil. The approximate position of text-figures and tables should be indicated in the manuscript margin.
Tables should be prepared as separate files in the MS WORD format with a single paper copy, or as camera-ready print-outs (A4 maximum). In the case of submitting excessive tabulated data it is possible to publish it in online version in pdf format. Such a procedure should be, however, preceded by the written approval by an author of the respective paper.
The abstract should briefly report the most important results reported in the paper.  References should include only cited published work (unpublished reports will be accepted only in exceptional cases) according to the journal's requirements. Examples:

In the case of any doubts as to the formal editorial requirements, authors are asked to check a recent issue of the journal or consult the editors. Manuscripts submitted to the editors and fulfilling the above editorial requirements will be accepted for publication after a thorough peer-review procedure. The submitting author of accepted manuscripts will receive a proof-copy which should be returned to the editors within three days. The journal will supply 50 reprints to the author(s) at no cost.
