About the journal
Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering
Description

The journal Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering is an international peer-reviewed forum for discussion between engineering and biological science to find efficient solutions in the development and improvement of bioprocesses. The journal focuses attention on multidisciplinary approaches for integrative bioprocess design. Coverage includes rational manipulation of biosystems through metabolic engineering techniques to provide new biocatalysts. The journal examines model-based design of bioprocesses, such as up-stream processing, bioreactor operation and downstream processing, leading to new and sustainable production processes.

The journal offers new approaches for design of cellular systems, taking into account the environment and constraints of technical production processes, integration of recombinant technology and process design, as well as bioinformatics and process systems engineering.

The journal publishes original papers, short communications and invited reviews.

Aims and scope

Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering provides an international peer-reviewed forum to facilitate the discussion between engineering and biological science to find efficient solutions in the development and improvement of bioprocesses. The aim of the journal is to focus more attention on the multidisciplinary approaches for integrative bioprocess design. Of special interest are the rational manipulation of biosystems through metabolic engineering techniques to provide new biocatalysts as well as the model based design of bioprocesses (up-stream processing, bioreactor operation and downstream processing) that will lead to new and sustainable production processes.

Contributions are targeted at new approaches for rational and evolutive design of cellular systems by taking into account the environment and constraints of technical production processes, integration of recombinant technology and process design, as well as new hybrid intersections such as bioinformatics and process systems engineering. Manuscripts concerning the design, simulation, experimental validation, control, and economic as well as ecological evaluation of novel processes using biosystems or parts thereof (e.g., enzymes, microorganisms, mammalian cells, plant cells, or tissue), their related products, or technical devices are also encouraged.

The Editors will consider papers for publication based on novelty, their impact on biotechnological production and their contribution to the advancement of bioprocess and biosystems engineering science. Submission of papers dealing with routine aspects of bioprocess engineering (e.g., routine application of established methodologies, and description of established equipment) are discouraged.

The journal publishes Original Papers, Short Communications and invited Reviews.

Fields of interest: Bioprocess Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biocatalysis, Systems Biology, Biology, Tissue Engineering, Life-Science Engineering, Medicine.

Online Submission

Manuscript Submission
Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities ?tacitly or explicitly ?at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Permissions
Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Online Submission
Authors should submit their manuscripts online. Electronic submission substantially reduces the editorial processing and reviewing times and shortens overall publication times. Please follow the hyperlink “Submit online?on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.
