About the journal

Researchers, teachers, and students interested in all areas of individual differences (e.g., gender, temperament, personality, intelligence) and their assessment in human and animal research will find the Journal of Individual Differences useful. The Journal of Individual Differences publishes manuscripts dealing with individual differences in behavior, emotion, cognition, and their developmental aspects. This includes human as well as animal research. The Journal of Individual Differences is conceptualized to bring together researchers working in different areas ranging from, for example, molecular genetics to theories of complex behavior. Moreover, it places emphasis on papers dealing with special methodological and conceptual issues in basic science as well as in their applied fields (assessment of personality and intelligence).

The Journal of Individual Differences is abstracted/indexed in Current Contents/Social and Behavioral Sciences (CC/S&BS), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), PsycINFO (APA), and PSYNDEX (ZPID).

All manuscripts are to be submitted electronically via the journal’s submission website at http://www.individual-differences.com. Reviews are returned to the authors within 4 weeks of submission and authors can track all steps of the publication process via a password-protected area of the site.

Research papers comprise the normal category of papers. They may contain up to 10,000 words, including tables and references, and up to 6 figures.

Theoretical articles provide evaluative summaries of actual research, integrative accounts of ongoing research programs, or presentations of innovative theories and models. These manuscripts are not limited in size, but not more than one such article will be published per issue. In addition, the review process may require more time than that required for research articles.

Manuscript Submission: Submissions are only accepted in electronic format via the upload page at http://www.individual-differences.com. The following formats are accepted:

  • rtf (rich text format)
  • doc (Microsoft Word, version 6.0 and higher)
  • wpd (WordPerfect, version 7.0 or higher)

For further details see the upload page at http://www.individual-differences.com.

Manuscripts should be submitted as one file containing text, tables, and all figures. The file should be named after the last name of the first author, and its extension should designate its format, e.g., smith.doc. Microsoft Word or WordPerfect files are preferred. Figures are accepted in high resolution tif and eps formats.

Manuscript Format. Manuscripts should be prepared according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). In particular, statistical and mathematical copy and references should conform to the Publication Manual.
