About the journal
Animal Biology, is formally a continuation of the Netherlands Journal of Zoology, the official journal of the Royal Dutch Zoological Society since its foundation in 1872 (until 1952 known as Archives Néerlandaises de Zoologie).
Animal Biology publishes articles from all quarters of zoology, including ecology, behaviour, evolution, morphology, neurobiology, developmental biology, physiology, cognition, endocrinology, systematics, genomics and theoretical biology.
Thomson Scientific’s Journal Citations Report for 2009 ranks Animal Biology with an Impact Factor of 1.069.
This title is included in the HINARI, AGORA and OARE programmes.

Animal Biology publishes original research papers on topics in the field of integrative zoology, including ecological and functional morphology, behavioural and physiological ecology, environmental physiology, behavioural biology, neuroscience and biosystematics. Purely descriptive papers will not be considered for publication.
