About the journal
|
The Israel Medical Association Journal (IMAJ), representing medical sciences and medicine in Israel, is published in English by the Israel Medical Association. The Israel Medical Association Journal (IMAJ) was initiated in 1999. The editor is Prof. Yehuda Shoenfeld and the deputy editors are Prof. Shuki (Joshua) Shemer and Prof. Gad Keren.
IMAJ is distributed to 16,000 members of the Israel Medical Association and to additional subscribers in Israel and worldwide. It replaces the former Israel Journal of Medical Sciences that was in existence for 30 years.
IMAJ publishes original articles and reviews, editorials, case reports and other feature columns, such as Images in Clinical Medicine, conference reports, book reviews, medical education, current and historical viewpoints, Israel's ultra-new state-of-the-art technology for diagnosis and treatment. Unique is IMAJ's coverage of specific regional issues - infectious and parasitic diseases, effects of the local environment on morbidity and mortality, Jewish genetic diseases, epidemiology of subpopulations - relevant to medical practice in distant countries with similar biopsychosocial problems.
Imaj's impact factor is rising. The journal is indexed in Science Citation Index ExpandedTM (ScisearchR), ISI Alerting Services, Current ContentsR /Clinical Medicine, Index Medicus and MEDLINE |
Instructions to Authors
These guidelines are in accordance with the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (known as the Vancouver style), determined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
The Israel Medical Association Journal (IMAJ) will accept for consideration original manuscripts that have not or will not be submitted or published elsewhere before appearing in IMAJ. This restriction does not apply to abstracts or proceedings of scientific meetings. If any part of the article (e.g., a table) has been published previously, the submitting author must obtain permission from the publisher (or journal) and acknowledge such in full. The Editor also welcomes Book Reviews and letters. (see also Case Reports below).
Peer Review Articles will be sent for peer review to at least two experts at the editor's discretion. Authors may recommend reviewers in their field, in Israel or abroad, but the Journal is not obligated to consult the reviewers suggested. All articles with a statistical analysis will be sent to a statistician for evaluation.
Study Protocols Human and animal studies submitted to the Journal are required to have received formal approval by the author's Institutional Review Board, and clinical studies must adhere to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.
Submission of Manuscripts IMAJ requires four manuscript copies (double-spaced on A4 paper) and an IBM-compatible diskette (in Word and only the last version of the article), the completed checklist (see below), a covering letter signed by all the authors, and a processing fee of NIS 100 or $25 payable to IMAJ. It should be addressed to: Israel Medical Association Journal, 2 Twin Towers, 11th floor, 35 Jabotinsky Street, P.O. Box 3604, Ramat Gan 52136, Israel. In articles with more than six authors, state the role of each author in the study.
Original articles should not exceed 10 pages of text, in the following format: Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, References, Tables and Figures (not more than four). Reviews should not exceed 12 pages and 4 tables or figures and Case Communications 3 pages and not more than one table or figure. Acknowledgments may appear at the end of the text. Pages should be numbered. Letters to the Editor should not exceed 2 pages and include not more than 4 references. Title Page: Concise and descriptive (not declarative) title, authors' full names with academic degree, institutional affiliation (departments and hospitals), running title of up to 40 characters, and corresponding author's name, address, telephone and fax numbers, and email address. PDF or FAX should be stated to indicate how you wish to receive the galley proofs. Abstract (Original Articles only): Structured abstract of up to 250 words with the following headings: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions. At least five key words should appear above the abstract. References: References (not exceeding 25 for original articles, 40 for reviews and 5 for Case Communications), in square brackets, should be numbered consecutively in the text. References that are cited first in a table or illustration should be numbered according to their sequence in the text (i.e., the reference number in the table should follow the number in the text). Personal communications or un-published data should appear with appropriate acknowledgment in parentheses in the text only. The style for the Reference list is that of Index Medicus. If the number of authors is 6 or less all should be given; if 7 or more give the first 3, et al. If the citation is a Review, Editorial, Letter, or Abstract, indicate such in square brackets after the title. For a book or a chapter in a book, list the authors of the chapter, chapter title, book editors, book title (first letter of each word capitalized), city and publisher, in that order. See below.

Illustrations: High quality graphs and glossy photographs with clear annotations that will permit reduction to fit the width of one column (8 cm). Four sets of each figure are required, each with a label pasted on the back indicating the figure number, the direction marked by an arrow, and the first author's name. Figure legends should appear on a separate page in the text.
Abbreviations: Use only standard abbreviations if the term appears frequently. The term should be written in full the first time; the second time it may appear as an abbreviation with a numbered footnote and the full term defined in the footnotes at the bottom of the page.
